Really enjoyed this. Used to looking at changing enhancer/CRE use across tissues, but it's very cool to see it during evolution as well

Kaessmann Lab@kaessmannlab.bsky.social

Half a century ago, King & Wilson proposed that humans differ from chimpanzees mainly through changes in gene regulation. In our new preprint, we used AlphaGenome to map such changes genome-wide, across tissues of the human body! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

This is awesome! So many possible applications (and loads of fun experiments I can't want to try in the lab!)

Will Chen@chenomics.bsky.social

Thrilled to share my freshly "baked" Baker lab paper. We took a bottom-up approach to designing transcriptional regulators. Instead of relying on natural activation domains, we designed compact proteins that recruit specific cofactors. Activators for now, repressors to come!

Have you ever looked at a gene in IGV or a genome browser and wondered “What are all those (ATAC-seq/H3K27ac/CTCF ChIP-seq/…) peaks doing?” 🤔 I’m thrilled to share that we developed a new technology called Swap-seq to answer that exact question. Swap-seq: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

I'm excited to share our new preprint: Generation of a transgenic cephalopod tinyurl.com/pc86jxz8 Cephalopods (cuttlefish, octopus & squid) are crazy critters that dynamically camouflage to their surroundings by changing the color, pattern, & texture of their skin, which they control w their brain.

Fold Spacer lets you fly through protein structures (Weekend project #2). It’s my first game: I originally set out to build a racer with structures as the tracks, but was a little too crazy. So it became this instead. You can upload your own structures. 🌐 martin-steinegger.github.io/Fold-Spacer/

One of my favourite meetings! Great science and fantastic community- you should register before it's too late!

Really elegant work showing the importance of transient enhancer/promoter contacts. Also highlights why sometimes, building a tightly controlled model system in cells gives us the best way to get a clear answer to a complex question

Anders Sejr Hansen@andersshansen.bsky.social

(1/n) Very excited to share tri-lab collab (Mirny & Zechner) led by Harvey, Henrik & Jack: Q: How do enhancers & promoters interact in space (contact vs. action-at-a-distance) and time (stable vs. transient)? A: Transient E-P contact (~25-42 nm lasting ~10-20 sec): www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Congrats! This is very cool!

New paper! How do RNAs "know" where to go inside a cell? We dug into the sequence elements that route RNAs to the right place. It turns out that, in mammals, they're surprisingly massive (>200 nt), multipartite, and wonderfully complicated. 🧵
