2. Reverie 1.2 is now out and it’s really lovely. I’m motivated to keep improving my journalling app, because it’s what I use. I imported my entire 15 year Day One journal into it and use Reverie exclusively. It lets me talk to past me in a way that nothing else does. Get it here: freeholder.dev

Reverie 1.1 has been out for a few days, but 1.2, another big update, is going to be out this week. I’m using it for all my writing. There is still nothing like it. Sure, it has all the journal stuff you’d expect, but it’s the conversations with your past self that make it special. freeholder.dev

Reverie v1.0.13 is out. It features: - fuzzy find from anywhere - tag support - a really beautiful new settings dialogue. I haven’t seen anyone do a settings page quite like this, you can tell I used to make games! Reverie is quiet while you write and comes alive when you look back freeholder.dev

Reverie 1.0.12 is now out. Featuring: - UI polish - An index card view of the timeline - The best typewriter mode of any app out there. For your first drafts and for powering through without going back. Reverie is what I use for all my creative writing and journalling. freeholder.dev

Reverie 1.012 is out tomorrow. It has a lovely new feature that some writing apps have tried, but none of them have nailed — I think I’ve nailed it. Not only has Reverie replaced Day One as my journalling app of choice, it’s replaced every other app for writing. If you’re interested: freeholder.dev

Reverie v1.011 is out now for Mac and Windows. It’s not just my default journal now, it’s also my favourite writing app bar none and I use it for all my creative writing. You can try it for free for as long as you like. Only a select few have paid for it and I ask only that you buy it if you love it

Reverie is now at v1.010 and development continues apace. I use Reverie as my main journal, but also for all my creative writing. Give it a try for as long as you like if you’re on Mac or PC. Buy it only if you love it. freeholder.dev

Friday’s Dancing Monkeys post will be about the imminent launch of Reverie, my first commercial application that isn’t a game in 44 years of building software. If you’re curious, please subscribe. Link is in the bio.

My mum used to sing Punjabi folk songs while sewing. I still hear snippets of them in my head. Those snippets will be lost when I die. I’m 60, I can’t get a job in the industry I gave my life to, but that deep humiliation is nothing to the pain of knowing I failed to preserve my parents’ culture.

I need this.

I’m NOT excited and I’m NOT thrilled. I’m honestly scared to share this, but I’m not a coward. I have to show you what you helped us create. None of this would have been possible without your help, and we can’t finish it without your support www.launchgood.com/1948 youtu.be/D4qh1FAPEUo

While it’s boring talking of the other place here, the people leaving it accelerated this shift. What concerned me wasn’t the right wing shift, I mean most Western governments are going full fash, but we didn’t stop voting. It’s because our voices were silenced, so it’s no longer a fair fight.

Not for nothing, but I think a lot of people have wrongly settled on “Twitter became a right-wing cesspool because all the cool people left” instead of “All the cool people left because Twitter became a right-wing cesspool.”

They should use the scream from Chimera.

From one of the leading characters from Code is Just, this endorsement means a lot to me. Thanks, David!

Coming from Chris, this means a lot. If you like my work, buying the book and/or audiobook will help support it. That said, if money is tight, you can download the book for free, and if you do, I’d appreciate it if you’d share the link with your friends if you like it.

@dancingmonkeys.net just dropped season 1 of “Code Is Just” audio book. Read by Shahid himself. It’s awesome, like Shahid himself. 1720541891659.gumroad.com/l/ggoudn

Thanks for supporting my work, Mark, much appreciated. Recording the audio has reminded me just how much I put into this story and how well it was received.

Boys and girls and rabbits, this series on Twitter in the good old days was the most brilliant use of the platform ever imho. Anyone interested in games, programming and people should check it out. PS Shahid is releasing it as an audiobook too. And he’s a great speaker. Go!

If you offered me the choice between sawing my balls off with a rusty hacksaw without anaesthetic and opening another bloody SD card package, I’m not sure I could decide.

Today, swiping over to my iPhone widgets, set up as a personal dashboard, I noticed with alarm that a WhatsApp widget had been inserted, silently, into my top stack of two items (now, three). I consider this as alarming as finding a stranger in my home.

I’ll be 60 this month. My dad passed away over a quarter of a century ago, my mum more recently. Why is it that no matter how grown up you think you are, you only recognise their patience and wisdom after they’re gone?

Every line of text I write in my daily note in Obsidian, I’m now getting an ugly Apple “Intelligence” overlay suggesting “Proofread” and “Rewrite” How about you proofread my cease and desist order and rewrite your code?

If you can run any program you want on it, it’s a computer. If you’re prevented from doing so, it’s a console. 💻 Computers: PC 💻 Mac 💻 Android phone 💻 🎮 Consoles: PS5 🎮 iPhone 🎮 iPad 🎮 I’m not making a value judgment here, I just think it’s important to make the distinction.
