The hilarious thing about the Minnesota football program is that Fleck and the Gophers are stuck with each other. He can't do any better than Minnesota, and Minnesota can't do any better than Fleck. So Duke's Mayo Bowl, here we come yet again.

Many of us remember when the shortstop was *expected* to miss the bag when turning two. Great, they got the call right. But they ruined a classic baseball moment in the process.

Status of famous John Andersons from the early 1980s: - Independent presidential candidate: dead - Fun country singer of "Swingin'" fame: dead - Green Bay Packers all-decade linebacker: alive - "Owner of a Lonely Heart" singer (who is actually a Jon): alive

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

Mike Grim truly is the heir to Ray Christensen when it comes to radio coverage of Gophers games in that you can tell immediately by the tone of his voice how they're doing without knowing the score. His delivery last night could be best characterized as subdued.

I loved playing my parents' records as a little kid, but they had to hide this one from me because the mean expression on the woman's face scared me so much.

In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?

Rock songs not by Ozzy Osbourne that actually did endorse taking one's own life: Nick Lowe, "Endless Sleep" Cheap Trick, "Auf Wiedersehen" The English Beat, "Click Click"

Her ad also says that money that Kloby supposedly touched "might have" gone to "suspected" terrorists. Demuth has nothing to run on beyond smears and innuendo.

In the NYT Book Review today, Stephen King named James Ellroy's 'Blood's River' as one of his favorite thriller novels of the 21st century, which would be cool if such a book existed. (It's 'Blood's a Rover.' C'mon, @nytimes.com.)

New: Macklemore says Robert Kraft — who owns Gillette Stadium, where Macklemore & Ed Sheeran were to perform later this month — called Sheeran. Kraft rallied other owners together behind an ultimatum for Sheeran: if Macklemore stays on the tour, you won't be allowed in our venues.

No, not irreversible. But it will almost certainly take more than one Democratic term to fix. Which is why I’ve been so insistent that folks stop the goddamn purity tests and vote responsibly in November. We aren’t looking for perfect candidates. We’re looking for better than Republicans.

National Video, La Crosse, Wis., ca. 1984. My friends and I loved movies but none of us owned a VCR. So we'd pool our cash, go to this place, rent a machine, each pick out a couple movies, and stay up all night watching them. One of us would groggily take everything back at 9 a.m. when they opened.

Bruce Springsteen, 1978 (canceled; only 700 out of 3,000 seats sold) Prince, 1983 (ride from Eau Claire to St. Paul fell through) Ian McLagan, 2014 (he died that morning)

How about this? Best concerts that you ALMOST got to see but DIDN’T. Include reasons if you like: Rolling Stones (play rehearsal) Johnny Cash (I dallied) R.E.M. (play performance) Nirvana (canceled, college declined to pay requested $500 appearance fee)

Wab Kinew reacts to Donald Trump renaming Lake Ontario: "You know when a rock band is really over the hill and you see them in a casino playing some song from like 50 years ago? I think that's the part of Donald Trump's presidency we're at now."

THREAD: A couple of thoughts on Natalie Harp. First, I'm so glad that people on our side are concerned about her and her mental health. It's because we have hearts and empathy and we aren't sociopaths. We're good people, and I love that about us. But I think we are also right to be angry. 1/

The first four Beatles CD reissues. I was assigned to write about them, so that was my excuse to buy a player. A friend got me one (and the CDs, I think) with his Best Buy employee discount, and I repaid the favor with a case of beer, as one does at age 24.

44 years ago today, the first CD was produced. What is the first CD you owned?

Dave Marsh's death reminds me of something. Forty-plus years ago, if a critic wrote something you disagreed with, you couldn’t vent anonymously in an online forum. You couldn’t join a hundred other people sparring with them in a setting like Bluesky. (1/3)

You had to get them on the phone and hash it out in real time; you had to write them a letter explaining in painstaking detail why they were wrong; or, you had to work to get your thoughts published, just as they did. (2/3)

You had to take practical action, not just run your mouth from behind a keyboard. And if you took that trouble, you were far more likely to be heard by your antagonist. You might even end up friends. For every one thing the Internet gives us, it takes away two or three other things. (3/3)

still think daily about the time I was at Arby's and the person in front of me asked what the "healthy option" was, and the cashier responded "leaving"

Since it's that time of year...is there a worse value in sports than an NFL exhibition game? You pay $150 to see the starters run half a dozen plays, followed by a parade of has-beens and never-will-be's, as you sip your $25 beer and ponder walking back to your $30 parking spot.

I made dinner for my abuser a bunch of times. You have to play nice while you're planning your escape so you don't get dead. Max Miller is a textbook abuser.

FYI there is no "real" reason why Rome "fell." Its power waned for the usual, mundane reasons: widening gap between rich and poor, inability to maintain infrastructure, incompetent leadership, pointless wars, endless persecution of marginalized groups who performed vital labor, etc.

Say hello to the worst person in a state of 5.8 million. There are people living out their lives in the catacombs of Stillwater State Prison who have more moral fiber. (P.S. I'm talking about Emmer; Collin is still working her way up (or down) the list.)

The two people who are breaking through the noise and cutting through to the essence of what is happening right now with deeply damaged Donald Trump are Jon Ossoff and Hunter Biden. Here is Hunter's very perceptive take on the messy scene at the White House Correspondents Dinner:
