The Hope Index: a midterm election tracker for where prediction markets and polls disagree! Biggest gap today: Iowa. Polls have Turek (D) about tied with Hinson (R), but the money gives him ~42%. After Election Day, I’ll score who was closer! daniel-a-n-goldstein.github.io/pollsvscash/#ia-senate

The idea is that polls are cheap talk voting intentions and prediction markets are real bets. So a gap is either missing information or costly partisan cheerleading (or noise). Methods are on the website and GitHub. Just a fun side project for the midterms, so very open to suggestions!

Politicians penalize anti-democratic candidates for party leadership. But the penalty is no larger than for ordinary misconduct like expense fraud or harassment. Democracy is a negative trait among others, but not a definite red line.

During the first Trump administration, I observed mostly resistance and temporary reversals. But recent news suggests that the current administration might be pushing agencies toward full erosion—jeopardizing their ability to deliver legislated mandates #polisci #econ

Government workers respond to disruptive leadership in three ways: 1️⃣ Resistance: Sticking to the agency’s mission 2️⃣ Temporary Reversals: A weakened commitment to mission, but agencies can recover 3️⃣ Erosion: Abandoning the mission entirely and missions may take years to recover
