Today at approximately 1:30 PM Eastern time the main accounts for the No Kings coalition on Instagram were frozen and pulled down. The admin have lost access to the account and are unable to login. The coalition needs amplification to drive attention towards this attempt to impact our communications

UPDATE: As of 3:03 PM, the No Kings Coalition Instagram account has been restored. Coalition members are keeping an eye on it throughout our nationwide day of action and will provide an update if there are any new developments.

Thank you for spreading the word and amplifying the message, follow @nokingscoalition (on instagram if that's your thing) and make sure to get out and attend an event today!

If you're wondering why Flock leaves cameras up after a contract end, part of their business model and marketing strategy is being able to advertise that their customers can access data from cameras all over the country. You may have canceled your contract, but the cameras still fuel the system.

In response to Michael Tracey's request for Jane Doe's name, this image was created by Brittany Alexander for anyone who would wish to use it as their profile picture on any social media account. Medusa is often seen as the ultimate archetypal victim of institutional betrayal. #WeAreJaneDoe

LinkedIn appears to now be adding `?isSelfProfile=true` to the URL when you look at your own profile. There is no world where that makes sense. This has to be yet another example of AI driven development resulting in terrible code and product choices.

Presumably there's no real behavior attached to this that isn't validated by backend session management (IE presumably I can't actually do anything to someone else's profile by setting `?isSelfProfile=true`). But with AI driven development... who knows? 🤷‍♂️

These days they are mostly used for things that should follow the url around. Search parameters (where you might want to link someone to the search you ran) or tracking ids (where you're trying to track how a particular link propagates).

`isSelfProfile` makes zero sense for this. If I share my profile link, I'm not going to be sharing it with myself, I'm going to be sharing it with people not me. In which case, `isSelfProfile` should no longer be true.

Let me explain. Query parameters are user provided, meaning they are untrusted. In the ancient days some people would pass the session ID around in a query parameter, but this was deeply insecure and made it super easy for attackers to steal your session (and take over your account).

Plot twist: *Every one* of the tiny bets will change the world. Some of the payoffs will just be on a larger scale or more recognized than others.

M. Blind@mdotblind.bsky.social

Universal Basic Income is like making 100 million tiny bets, any one of which could pay off and change the world. A kid goes to college. An inventor in their garage. A poet, a painter, a composer; the book that becomes a movie that becomes a franchise; maybe even the programmer that can invent an AI

Parts of Indiana have been without power for 9–10 days due to storms. Tens of thousands are currently in the dark (peak was over 300,000). Puerto Rico has been rationing water for 13+ days due to severe drought. Trump has not said a word about either crisis. Not a tweet. A “Truth.” Nothing

Or to put it another way: Anyone who is actually worthy of being super rich -- moral, ethical, kind hearted, caring -- will never become super rich. They will give it all away long before it accumulates to that point.

Part of the reason a lot of super rich people are so awful is that when normal people get an absurd amount of money, they immediately start looking around for who they can help.

Every conversation about bike lanes is like: "Car crashes kill a huge number of people every day, including pedestrians, cyclists, & car occupants. Good bike infrastructure has been shown to make everyone safer (& doesn't increase congestion)." "But sometimes cyclists break rules & hit people!"

There is something deeply cathartic about reading through Kai's posts, after listening to his measured journalism on Marketplace for years, and seeing him absolutely letting loose on our behalf. More journalists should take note: cursing and swearing at our present situation is wholly appropriate.

I'll summarize this: Mamdani asked NYers to keep air conditioning at 78 degrees. A wave criticism hit online. A MSNBC broadcast pointed out the US Department of Energy recommends that 78 degree figure. Immediately after, the US Department of Energy deleted 6,000 web pages related to energy saving.

We can not afford this.

Naomi Klein@naomiaklein.bsky.social

Everybody in the "climate space" (which means everyone on earth...) needs to understand these mind-blowing figures. Google's "total electricity consumption jumped from 31 terawatt hours (TWh) in 2024 to 43 TWh in 2025." In ONE year. The AI corporate arms race is eating the world.

This take is right. Our recent gains were the result of years of hard, gruelling, grinding work not luckily capturing a moment. In a lot of ways, that's great! It means we can replicate them everywhere. But we have to do the work. It won't just happen.

After Tuesday's Primary Elections, the progressive candidates, particularly in New York City, saw huge gains. But, as @petertwinklage.bsky.social warns, we shouldn't go around calling the progressive party the Democratic Tea Party just yet.

It’s hard to take a day off. You’re trying to relax but your brain is still burning up with deep thoughts like “people are not angry enough.”

I'm currently working on one of the other problems you've talked about in your videos recently: the attention and information economy. I'm working on a social platform with the goal of making it a nonprofit cooperative funded by user donations. Basically social platform Wikipedia plus democracy.

Obviously, this is great to see, but it isn’t a surprise. The fascists were able to go on their racist rampage not because their community broadly wanted it, but because a small minority called “police” allowed it.

These are the real people of Belfast. Thousands of anti-fascists rally against the far-right at Belfast City Hall today. They sent a clear message that racism is not wanted in their city. Things you love to see ✊❤

The problem here is all of these people know they're in a race against the clock to get all of this done before the tide turns. And by "all of this," I basically mean the destruction of anything that could criticize the post-Constitutional technofeudalist society they're hastily trying to stand up.

We don't have investors. We're working towards becoming a nonprofit, cooperative -- governed by workers and users. We will never empower a Zuckerberg, or a Bezos, or even a Dorsey. Instead, we will all work together to govern the platform an ensure it stays healthy, helpful, and connective.
