I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Even if they're not all for me, this is good. And hopefully, we can be spared future rounds of terminally online people declaring the movies are dead. Also, these movies are all made by human hands, minds and hearts.

I thought this was a joke. I thought Jessica was engaged in a classic goof-around. “That’s really funny!” I thought. But against every instinct I have to believe in a higher power, this is real: link.tubi.tv/rUNI2Uoxv7b

Lazy Saturday watching is my favorite trash version of Frankenstein, the 2004 TV movie for a never-to-be series where the Creature tracks down his now immortal serial killer maker with the help of hard nosed detective Parker Posey on the mean streets of The Big Easy.

I hadn’t heard of CLOUDBURST before this, but I just checked it out and loved it. It’s on Prime for the rest of the month. www.amazon.com/gp/video/det...

I didn't really know much about him or his work aside from, like, The Music Man, but I watched Cloudburst for the first time this year where he plays a codebreaker vigilante who avenges his wife's murder. and I was like, "wait, is Robert Preston hot?" and the answer is yeah, Robert Preston hot

Did you see the viral moment. Did you see the greatest thing ever recorded. Did you see the most amazing thing ever captured. Did you see the thing people couldn't believe. Did you see the interaction that blew people's minds. Did you see the exchange that will change everything you know about life.

AL MICHAELS: They say he is called The Machine and Nic Cage has to track him down in the pornography video tape underground. Wonderful film. 8 mm. And that's too high for Kirk. I'll tell you who has not been a machine. Trevor Lawrence, spraying it around all night. HERBSTREIT: here comes the punter

So I’m worried that the hyper-literalism and inability to enjoy fiction as fiction that plagues certain younger people will render society cataclysmically stupid within the next decade or so

‘Wicker’ stars Alexander Skarsgård as a man made entirely of wicker, complete with a rock-hard wicker dick. But what about splinters? Bacteria? Degradation? Would it be advisable, from a sexual-health perspective, to mount a basket dick? We asked a gynecologist: vulture.visitlink.me/DNQwX5

I'm less interested in who plays Bond as long as they set every new Bond movie from here on out in a general late-80s venue: waning Cold War, soundtrack heavy with synth-pop, cheeseball action with just enough grit to earn a moment of gravitas but not so much that they're taking it too seriously.

CASINO ROYALE was good; every Craig Bond after that was a muddy slog through Generational Trauma or wildly overcooked crime sprees. I do not want to see James Bond cry at his childhood home. No one does. He's a cartoon. He needs cars, explosions, sex, adventure, and a good villain.

I will never understand what possessed someone to look at CARRIE and think "this should be STRANGER THINGS"

It's called film "footage" because camera operators initially held the cameras with their feet. That changed after a film shoot in 1931, when an operator got a foot cramp and was forced to hold the camera in his hands. The "footage" he got that day was extraordinary. That man's name? Hans Cameraman.

I just got laid off from my full-time job, which is awful. If you're looking to hire someone (or know someone looking to hire someone) who's excellent at writing, editing, communications in general, and/or cultural criticism, email me at mousterpiececinema at gmail dot com. Don't be shy! Seriously.

I should probably also confess I didn't really like THE ODYSSEY that much either (it's not a mystery story, and rearranging it so that the hero's motivation is a mystery reveal does not make it inherently more impactful or interesting, and just waters everything down), so I'm a black sheep this year

Really glad this piece quotes Natasha Schull, whose "Addiction By Design" is invaluable in explaining the genuinely opiate-like appeal of slot machine gambling. This article does well to connect that to what I see with my parents when they're on their phones.

End of an era. KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC is one of the best Star Wars game ever made. MASS EFFECT is one of the best RPGs and sci-fi games ever made. DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS is a legend. Outstanding writing and world-building that was catastrophically mismanaged by bad leadership. RIP
