On Sunday I ran my local trail half marathon, Paine to Pain. Today, a registration window briefly opened for next year's race at a stupidly cheap price (it goes up slightly for later registrants). It's smart timing: 3 days later, I'm no longer sore, but I'm still proud enough to want to do it again.
If you live near NYC and enjoy running, it's a fun race – a loop course on trails in lower Westchester. Wave starts are cued by musket shot. RD @ericturkewitz.bsky.social announced pre-race that one of the runners this year was a descendant of Aaron Burr, "But we're not giving him a musket." 🤌

I love CA coastal travel, but I agree. And it’s not the only one. In SD this summer, I talked w/a fellow bar patron about driving Route 1. I said I had to do it again soon because the state can’t fix it forever. He put his hand on my shoulder and said “We’ll continue to keep it open for you.”
I love taking the train between San Diego and Los Angeles since it's such a gorgeous view but there's just no way it'll still exist on the same track a generation from now. www.instagram.com/reels/DeSCAh...

It's always a delight to see psycholinguistics stimuli that make use of the richness of human language. Today's example: Playing a recording to newborn infants of someone saying "The uptight mollusk drew a polearm." #snl2026 doi.org/10.1111/desc...
I continue to do my part in recommending In-N-Out even though I haven’t lived in a state with one for the past decade. Is it the best burger? No. Is it the best fast food burger? Arguably, yes. Is going there an identifiably Californian experience? Absolutely.
According to data from YouGov, In-N-Out Burger is the most recommended dining brand in 2026. In-N-Out received the highest Positive Recommend score at 87.3%.

All Excel clones are inferior, so I'm stuck there. But I'm now looking into paying OOP for software that does a better job syncing between OS and Sharepoint than *Microsoft's own product*. I would ask how the M365 Mac dev team hasn't been fired yet... but maybe they were all fired years ago. </rant>
Huh, got a San Diego news alert. Let’s see what’s going on in my old… uh…

Contrast this with Michael Crichton’s unrealistic and shabby shorthand for “scientific genius” in The Andromeda Strain, in which a Very Intelligent Scientist publishes a paper so important that it’s printed in both Science *and* Nature.
the most realistic scene in Jurassic Park is when two scientists make a questionable decision — traveling to an undisclosed location with a strange man — on the promise of three years of modest funding
Not a visual illusion, but looking at the images in this thread makes me feel like my brain is glitching.
Twice a year, Hawai'i experiences a strange moment where the sun appears to be exactly overhead & anything that is completely vertical casts no shadow. Let's learn about Lāhainā Noon, subsolar points & 'Kau ka lā i ka lolo', meaning "the sun rests on the brains."
