People abroad don't understand the level of interference Meta & bots had in these elections. 5 days before the election a far-right politician posted a fake news video that got 157 MILLION views on Instagram in 24hs. For reference, GTA 6's reveal trailer got 90 million views on YouTube in 24hs.

I promise you this podcast about the horrific abuse of rich kids in a faux British boarding school is funnier than you think.

I think this is currently my favourite project I've yet been asked to work on - a map of a character's journey, highlighting the birds she has seen and heard while traveling! Being made for "Women's Wrongs" a part Gothic romance, part utopian travelogue and part comedy of manners by Zilla Novikov.

It was very clear why Google search was better than other searches, and GMail was at first quite good at filtering out spam compared with the alternatives. I got an iPhone for reasons that were obvious at the time. No one has presented me with a rationale for LLMs improving my life in any way.

Part of why I don't like the AI-or-bust economy is the constant flopsweat of people on the news who say this HAS to work. Quit making everyone so anxious. Goddamn. If this is the next Google then why are you acting like this? I don't remember being told to buy an iPhone at gunpoint.

It's easy to have sort of a low level, background radiation disgust because it's now so prevalent but the degree to which online gambling is pushed and enabled in every facet of our lives is so fucking creepy and people should be in jail about it

Welp now I have Christmas plans, let’s gooooo.

Did you know? In the Victorian era, an anti-Salvation Army movement called the β€œSkeleton Army” marched beneath skull-and-crossbones banners and fought battles with the Salvation Army? During the 1880s, the Salvation Army was a much more confrontational presence than today. #Victorian #history

It’s very simple. A reality TV host became dictator because he turned down a role for Sharknado 4 and that’s why the king of outer space, who cheats at Diablo, got to kill Africa. Now the economy is controlled by a sex cult that has something to do with Harry Potter fanfic because of robots.

"the author of that harry potter story leads an insane cult that's captured much of the media in this country" is a different person if you're in the UK or the US

I love it when a book is so vivid that the imagery and vibe for the cover just suggest themselves. It's queer and trans epic semi-fiction poetry set in the 1930s and it will haunt you.

Tucker Lieberman@tuckerlieberman.com

Friends: This is it. This is the cover! Design: @darkerthanvanta.bsky.social It was revealed in the Night Beats newsletter a couple weeks ago. I'm showing it to you here too. Attis & Aleph will be offered in the #BookBazaar26 on BackerKit which starts Oct. 29. www.backerkit.com/c/projects/t...

sorry, but torturing the omelas kid is just a smart move, polling-wise. i personally wish there wasn't a kid in the omelas hole--of course i do!--but let's not get distracted by purity tests, here.

I know people look down on ebooks and love the smell of paper but as someone with chronic spine pain and craptastic eyes, they are a gift and a blessing.

Our society's unfathomable cruelty to homeless people is not just morally unjustifiable, but more expensive than housing people would be. Cruelty against the homeless is an unaffordable luxury. Abandoning homeless people to avoid offending the Protestant work ethic is an unaffordable luxury.

ProPublica@propublica.org

ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in β€œsweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➑️ This is what they wrote:

The year is 2035. Flock cameras are everywhere. You step out of your home and hear a voice coming from somewhere overhead, possibly close to the streetlight next to you. It's me. "Collar gap."
