With frost threatening our li'l basil forest, today is pesto prep and freezing day. This year's crop includes Oregon filberts rather than pine nuts.

I started the 2026 Coffeeneuring adventure with a 67km ride that featured a stop for iced coffee at the deCordova sculpture park / museum. #Coffeeneur

I was 4 years old, in the back of my family's Ford Country Squire wagon with the wood tone paneling, at the drive-in. The poison apple in Snow White was too scary for me.

In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?

I wrote about the most recent HHS study, and I wanted to draw attention to something I did a little differently than some of the other people writing about these things: I tried to lay out as clearly as possible how the study was done and what it claimed to be trying to accomplish.

Assigned Media@assignedmedia.org

Late last week, the HHS released a report claiming to show a link between "transgender ideology" and political violence. Among other bizarre features of this unpublished, non-peer reviewed paper it included a grand total of 13 transgender people. assignedmedia.org/breaking-new...

I always see this "Move Free" supplement while shopping at Costco, and I'm transported back to my mom's kitchen in 1970 before my uncle in the Air Force brought us a real rice cooker from Okinawa.

We have been joking around my family for years that "Vegas Golden Knights" sounds like a brand of condoms. I can't figure out whether the joke needs to change now that they have been decisively shut out by Bussi.

Happy Vern*, everyone! *Nature Falls back when Autumn starts at the autumnal equinox, so one would think it Springs forward when Vern starts at the vernal equinox.

I quickly recognized that this kid was one of the smart ones. Here's Mr Jennings's kind, gentle, and concise takedown of Doomerism.

This kind of thing does point out a real ethical dilemma: block or mute?

The dooming on this site is getting out of control. Every time you post anything about politics some rando condescendingly wonders how you can't possibly know that elections are over and all hope is lost. If you've completely lost hope, I'm sorry, but shut the fuck up, OK? You're not helping.

Congrats to the class of '77. I was a hopeless Red Sox fan starting with their playoff run in '75, and remember the Blue Jays and Mariners showing up in the league together. Now "the new kids" will battle for a spot in the World Series.

It’s important to flood social media and news channels with news about how ICE lies, so that potential jurors see it.

last night as i was trying to wind down for bed i had a unified theory of what the fuck just happened, and i wrote it down, and filed it under "well, i can't talk about this on main without sounding insane until and unless the perp gets caught and is provably a groyper" anyways, great news! (1/X)

Amazing coverage of multi-billion dollar Medicare fraud and abuse, directly connected to multi-million dollar donation's to Trump's SuperPAC.

Judd Legum@juddlegum.bsky.social

1. On February 24, Extremity Care LLC, a company that sells very expensive bandages made from placentas, donated $5 MILLION TO TRUMP'S SUPER PAC Days later, Trump froze a pending rule that would BAR MEDICARE FROM COVERING EXTREMITY CARE'S PRODUCTS, which are overpriced & not backed by science.

I was with my family, enjoying a burger and a Heady Topper at a farm-to-table pub in Burlington Vermont. We were sitting at a window table watching the streetscape when Bernie Sanders walked by, practically within arms reach, chatting with another gentleman (possibly his son.)
