The prequels got reevaluated from boring failures to interesting failures just in time for the internet era where everything is either trash or genius so interesting failures have to be secret masterpieces.

I rewatched The Phantom Menace a few years ago and it occurred to me that the movie itself seems to resent Jar Jar Binks. Like, he's never depicted as anything other than a buffoon justifiably hated by those around him. He is granted no dignity.

Genuinely think he can get up to 420% by the end of his term.

NEW: A Siena poll finds NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s favorability rating has surged to 69% among city residents, up 9 points from last month. He also holds a 71% favorability rating among Black New Yorkers.

100 hours into Fortune's Weave I am finally getting kiiiiiinda sick of the repetition with the fourth protagonist. Looking forward to actually getting to the back third (...ish?) of the game where the story actually progresses.

I think Leda's path kinda derailed my story enjoyment by consistently introducing interesting new world building elements and then having her loudly announce she will not be looking into that because VENGENCE.

Though I think it says something about me that I kinda loved that same basic pattern in Deitrich's path where he'd uncover the secret history of the world and be like "bored now. What do I stab?"

This is going to be the funniest shit to Surf Dracula. 9 episodes of ominous shots of birds then a bunch of pelicans kill Sarah Snook's daughter or whatever in the finale.

HBO is officially developing ‘THE BIRDS’, a new series inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's film. Starring Sarah Snook, the series is a modern-day reimagining of the film set in Alaska with a murder mystery at the center. (Source: Deadline)

Politico wrote up Zohran playing basketball with the uncovering-a-big-scandal tone the same day the NYTimes wrote up "credible allegation that The President of the United States raped a woman" as a political strategy story. Broken media in a nutshell

Now this may sound like a republican argument and result in the exact same outcomes as being a republican but it's very different because you still get invited to the cool parties and you get to scream "don't punch left!" when somebody points out you suck ass exactly like a republican.

I feel like the broader Dropout audience wouldn't have appreciated all the deep cut Midsummer riffs my wife and I were doing watching this but like 15-20% of their audience would have loved it.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

I know it’s just me getting older but at this point when I stop paying attention to any kind of media for six months I come back to headlines like “why isn’t Grancho with Constance yet on this season of Prance despite the books?” and I’m already old enough to worry I’m having a stroke stop helping.

Getting really mad at Obama for doing a Cheesecake Factory joke is elite tier doing republicans job for them. Most people can just excuse Trump by saying some incoherent shit about drones. Only BlueSky posters have the dedication to declare cheesecake factory an underappreciated cultural institution

Obama: Trump's lost it. If you thought he was bad the first time now he's declaring Charlie Brown had hoes. Guy who writes a Substack called like "the complicated marxist": God where do I even begin with this guy. A thread about Obama, newspaper cartoons and AI (1/87)

Yup. The problem with the ME3 ending isn't actually story based it's gameplay based. In a series ABOUT player choice in the end none of those choices mattered and you got to agree with the reapers, agree with them but only kill robots, or rewrite everybody's DNA with no context or followup.

"Online Rent-a-Sage" Bret Devereaux@bretdevereaux.bsky.social

Oddly, I think the ending of ME3 might have been more satisfying without the Catalyst/StarChild and the Crucible - if beating or not beating the Reapers was a pure product of the alliances you made, reflecting the sum total of your choices.

Sick of being told I wanted a happy ending. I GOT a happy ending, the reapers are all dead and my Shep's even semi-canonically alive because I was a very good boy and did all the sidequests. I wanted to feel like the final choice was a culmination of my journey and not "now pick your ending."

I swear to God when the GOP tries to overthrow democracy after the election (and immediately fails because republicans are all cowards and they'll fold the moment somebody with a gun tells them no) literally everybody I see blaming democrats is catching a block I do not care if you are a mutual.

Oh wait can I change my answer to that viral thread a week or two back about the first media that scared the shit out of you as a kid?

On the one hand I always thought it was silly to believe that nominating a Nazi rapist then going “oops our bad” wasn’t going to cost us and on the other Maine voters are all extremely cursed morons and should be banished back to whatever shadow realm Stephen King found them in.

Taniel@taniel.bsky.social

Fox News' final poll of Maine's Senate race finds a 49/49 tie between Collins and Jackson among likely voters. (Jackson 50/48 among registered voters.) The same likely voter sample says they want Dems to run the Senate by a 53/45 margin.

I wish Blades '68 made it a little easier to show people the two page spreads for each playbook. They're really good introductions to the vibe of each character class and they all look extremely fucking dope but they seem to only be in the full book pdf which makes it hard to show them digitally.
