ACP has granted permission for a replacement Deer Park Hotel, following appeals. I'm glad that what looks to me like a credible sustainability analysis of the demolition proposal was done and that the Board again refused the additional road proposed. davidhealy.com?p=2007 davidhealy.com?p=1834
The High Court has granted me leave to challenge the permission to demolish and replace the Deer Park Hotel. Much of our building stock is destroyed and replaced with new resources. The planet cannot afford such waste. Demolition can be justified; ABP needs to make sure it is. davidhealy.com?p=1834

Thanks @michaellanigan.bsky.social for covering this. Given the political consensus on the need to incentivise landowners to build the planning permissions they hold, I hope the Government will act on this loophole. davidhealy.com?p=1999
Why are car parks, with planning for 1,500 homes, exempt from tax meant to accelerate building? With their eyes on three sites, Fingal County Councillors agreed to write to the Minister for Housing to ask him to change the rules.

Case taken by @clientearth.bsky.social @foeireland.bsky.social & Friends of the Irish Environment against @utilityregcru.bsky.social www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2026...
Rezoning greenbelt land, rather than zoning a brownfield site and right beside a train station, is bad planning with negative consequences for all of us. @fingal.ie executive and a majority of councillors are getting it wrong. Thanks @michaellanigan.bsky.social for this detailed coverage.
Fingal councillors have rezoned enough land for 5,000 homes, eating into the county's greenbelt. “I feel like, if I don’t vote [for it], I’m voting against housing. If I do vote, I’m voting against greenbelt.”
In response to proposals to rezone green belt land, I have proposed instead changing the zoning of brownfield and disused sites currently zoned for employment to mixed use or residential. The zoning proposals will be discussed by the Council on Monday. davidhealy.com?p=1943

Thanks to my fellow councillors for agreeing unanimously that @fingal.ie should stop using X, especially mayor Tom O’Leary for taking the suspension of standing orders and John Smith for suggesting that approach.

As developer plans a new community with hundreds of drive-up homes, a councillor suggests another vision. “It’s not that the people who live there don’t have cars,” he says. “It’s that the neighbourhood is not a car park, and the car parking is on the edge.”
My submission on the application for 1350 housing units at Belcamp calls for design of a safe walkable neighbourhood, with shops and childcare, and good quality public transport including a reservation for light rail. davidhealy.com?p=1926
Subsequent to this article, I have put my queries formally to the Council Executive. davidhealy.com?p=1906 We seem to be failing to take account of some major residential planning permissions in exactly the right highly accessible locations.
To make way for more housing Fingal proposes rezoning 11 sites, nibbling into greenbelt. However, councillors disagree over whether rezoning more land will actually lead to more housing being built.
The Settlement Capacity Audit underestimates residential capacity by between 2,500 and 3,000 units, omitting 3 sites (Blanchardstown, Santry) with full permission (1511 units) and Kellystown (1000 to 1500 units) where the Council will seek approval this year for the access road davidhealy.com?p=1915
