Chicken barley, like all @nigella.bsky.social one-pot chicken soupy stews, is delicious, simple, flexible and forgiving. Chuck in any veg you’ve got: I had half a butternut, a fennel bulb, some cabbage and a few slightly shrivelled mushrooms. Worked out perfectly. www.nigella.com/recipes/chic...

I knew about some flag weirdnesses. But it’s great to see them all laid out in one chart. Never again will I confuse 🇷🇴 and 🇹🇩. Or 🇮🇩 and 🇲🇨.

If nothing else, it shows the Irish flag in its proper ratio 1:2. It annoys me when they use 3:4!

I have just started re-watching breaking bad (third time). And I’m shocked by the spelling of hydrofluoric acid. It is not “hydroflouric”.

My laptop camera suddenly stopped working this afternoon. I googled everything I could, used ChatGPT, installed drivers, uninstalled devices, did a hard reset, went into device manager, terminal, the bios, oh, I don’t even know how to describe half of what I did. But nothing worked.

Well done, me! I’m just about to board my second flight of the day, taking me back to Madrid, after a 12-day, three-location holiday (Munich, Salzburg and Ljubljana) with trains or buses between each. I didn’t miss a single one or confuse any checkout dates (unlike last year).

Today was risky: minibus 120km from Ljubljana to Trieste airport, flight to Seville, exit airport and reenter for flight to Madrid, with minimal time at each airport. Thankfully, the traffic wasn’t bad, and the first flight arrived ahead of schedule. Sign me up for race across the world!

Postojna cave. The journey begins with a dizzying train ride through narrow tunnels, opening out into giant cathedrals with towering organ pipes. But they all go whizzing by so fast. I’m amazed no one has had their brains bashed out. Bet a few phones have been smashed, though.

After that, you and thousands of others get to follow a path through some of the more spectacular caverns. After a while, I managed to leave the crowds behind.

Salzburg beer hall. Woman on opposite table has spent ten minutes creating content about her currywurst. General shots. Close ups. Selfie stick full extended distant shots. Reaction shots. Pretend eating shots. Smiles! Gasps! Curiosity! Disgust! Whimsy! She hasn’t yet eaten a bit of it.

I’m in Munich. Watching a woman chainsmoke. Five in a row so far, lighting one from the other. It looked like she had a box of 55 cigarettes. I googled, and sure enough, Germany sells boxes of 55. And 77.
