A necessary article by @timhannigan.bsky.social about one of the bizarre and outlandish peculiarities of Ireland, namely the lack of a right to publicly access the countryside: www.irishtimes.com/life-style/2...
Aspects of this may already be there in early medieval Irish neighbourhood law.

IVAGENI MAQI LAISCEMITA (I-LIM-003 = CIIC 259, Mount Russell, Co. Limerick).
IVAGENI "yew-born" is Ir. Eogan, but LAISCEMITA is not so clear. Maybe connected with OIr. Loiscibet.
#ogham inscription
Apparently the reading is IVANGENI MAQUI LAISCOPITA. Though I could read very little of this, I did see what looked like a second stem line cut alongside the natural one at the edge of the stone’s face.
As naimhdeas don seangán vótáil an chiaróg dhubh don fheithidnimh. Maraíodh cách, an dreoilín teaspaigh a d'fhág a bhallóid bán agus an míoltóg nár vótáil in aon chor san áireamh.
I notice that because of the PHP security issues that were announced yesterday, a lot of websites are currently unavailable, among them eDIL, Corpus PalaeoHibernicum, Lexicon Leponticum, CODECS and apparently also various personal websites.
Ancient Celtic Working Group #3 yesterday:
We looked in detail at the letters in the Lepontic inscription TI·36 from Davesco (Cn. Ticino), but especially at the largely illegible third inscription TI·36.3 on its back side, which nevertheless, where letters are still visible, displays several...
J'ai été aidé, mais j'ai enfin répondu à une question que je me posais sur 'peul' en breton.
Je m'en doutais, mais cela semble bien venir du latin :

...intriguing graphic peculiarities.
And we then started on the question of the difficult and contentious phonological and/or phonetic interpretation of the deficient and undercharacterised Lepontic alphabet. 😬
Fitting for the time of year, I am afraid this question will haunt us for a while.

The Manuscript of the Week is RIA MS 23 P 12, the Book of Ballymote. Written in 1391 in Ballymote, Co. Sligo, this is a compilation of religious and secular material in the Irish language. There is also an image of figures on a boat on the front flyleaf, possibly a depiction of Noah’s Ark.

Beautiful big bird in middle of Maynooth this morning.
I don't know what it is. It does not seem to be usual Royal Canal heron that can be encountered frequently.
Ancient Celtic Working Group #2 yesterday:
I gave a very brief introduction to the Lepontic a.k.a. Lugano script, and then we plunged head-on into the corpus of Lepontic pala-inscriptions.
They are a perfect starting point: they are easy to understand and interpret and some are well preserved.
We started with the nicest example of all: the triple inscription TI·36 (Davesco, Canton Ticino CH). We were (& still are) looking at the front side (TI·36.1-.2). I asked the participants what they see, without even trying to read the inscription itself.
