Yes. I am also very uneasy about the severity of Malema's sentence. Obviously he isn't my most favourite MP and I do regard his singing of 'Kill the Boer', while not deemed illegal having been tested in court, as definitely provocative. Moreover, it gives ammunition to white supremacists.

Stuart Johnson@stujohnson.bsky.social

The person who can be most aggrieved by this soft-touch justice is Julius Malema. He got five years for firing a gun in the air, Mugabe's cousin only 3 for actually shooting someone. www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2026...)

Quite. Pretending that he is playing a game of 5D chess that is beyond the intelligence levels of us mere mortals disguises the fact that he's a fucking idiot.

More than that, don't hide. Don't be reticent because you don't want confrontation. I'm convinced the reason Trump and his minions believe elections are stolen is because Democrats are not as willing as Trumpers to hold forth. If you're a farmer, don't let other farmers tell you to vote Trump.

Dee Chan@deechan17.bsky.social

When you go to vote in the midterms, please vote for the Democratic candidate.

Good. I have limited sympathy for some farmers who didn't vote for Trump because I feel that most, particularly those in deep Red communities, were not committed enough as activists. I feel many pretended to be Trump supporters while voting for Harris because of social pressure or just kept quiet.

Angry@angrystaffer.bsky.social

Fair warning: If you don’t want to see a LOT of get out the vote content this year, I’m probably not a good person to follow. My goal for 2026 is to help hand the GOP the largest midterm loss in history. We’re going to make 2018 look like a small trickle.

📸 Mariupol, March 7, 2022. Two weeks later, russia would bomb this building — killing these three little girls. They were buried in the yard of the kindergarten across the street. They stayed, believing the world would protect them. Tragically, like so many, they were wrong.

I was tagged and asked to take a look at this claim - cos, well just look at it!🙄 Does it seem plausible that THE Trocadero is going to be turned into a Mosque? It was pretty easy to debunk but I decided to do a deep dive into the reality AND the appalling press coverage 🧵 1/26

I see plenty of good ideas being mentioned, but nobody to actually carry them out. The Democratic leadership is happy to sit on their hands and wait for the midterms while Rome burns or write angry letters.

This is an excellent idea!!!

I doubt it's Russia, even if 'falling out of the 22nd floor window' fits their MO very neatly. Mossad? As a warning about and retaliation for the S. African ICJ case against Israel? And I very much doubt that it's a suicidal remorse for the missing Tembisa millions. That simply isn't the ANC way.

Because they thought they would rule until Jesus comes. Now, if only we'd had an inclusive and therefore viable opposition party capable of winning 51% of the vote!! (Preferably not ruled by a matriarch overly sure of her own often right-wing conservative beliefs and over-inflated self-importance)

Pierre de Vos@pierredevos.bsky.social

🔒In 2017 a deployed cadre wrote a book of nearly 80 000 words and 277 pages setting out in minute detail how Nelson Mandela Bay was being dismantled by corruption, thievery and faction fighting. But despite this, the ANC simply ignored all warnings. www.news24.com/opinions/col...

Thanks for highlighting it. I have close family members who take a Telegraph subscription and the irrational, unreliable, obsessive, rabble rousing misinformation put out by that grotty rag has turned empathetic humans into hate filled monsters.

Quite. ' If Jews were not hated before, Netanyahu has made them universally despised. Killing an entire Nation to steal their land is not morally defensible, but nor is it possible and the only likely result will be the ratcheting up of tensions and hatred worldwide. Strategically flawed indeed.

It's the Trump methodology. I remember him saying that "if they stop testing, the numbers will go down" during the pandemic. Schrödinger's hurricane.

Christopher Webb@cwebbonline.com

In today’s episode of What Are They Thinking: “If you don’t see a hurricane coming… does it really exist?” 🚨 The Dept of Defense is shutting down its weather satellite program. No more data. No more updates. Meteorologists are scrambling—and we’re heading into peak storm season. Brilliant timing.

Netanyahu has placed Israel in mortal danger and the spectre of Israel losing support internationally is very real. Israel cannot exist alone and if they lose the backing of the US they are finished. Hence the fear and hence the attacks.

Daily Maverick@dailymaverick.co.za

In the face of unrelenting allegations of Israeli atrocities in Gaza, what would constitute an act of Jewish self-betrayal? On Freedom Day 2025, at the Jewish Literary Festival in Cape Town, this question was more important than any other. But it wasn’t asked inside the festival venue — it ...

I have a little conspiracy theory that Hegseth is deliberately using an unsecured line as a channel to supply the Kremlin with classified information while still maintaining plausible deniability through incompetence.

Ted Lieu@tedlieu.bsky.social

There are various ways a mobile phone can be surveilled if the hacker knows the phone number (eg, look up SS7 attack). Hegseth’s phone number—from where he texted ongoing combat operations—was easily accessible on the internet. He has no concept of OpSec. He needs to resign.

1 might be a happenstance, 2 might be carelessness, but 3 looks like an attempt to leak information to the Russians while using incompetence to provide plausible deniability. Or is my conspiracy theory a little too far fetched?

Another day, another appalling security violation

The pill was the driver for the emancipation of women because it offered reliable birth control to allow women to control their lives away from the endless conveyor line of birth. In doing so, it cut the chains that bound them to the wishes of men and freed them from a biblical straightjacket.

feminist next door@emrazz.bsky.social

Any measure to “persuade” young women to get married and get pregnant that isn’t “because it makes them happy” is a measure to coerce, entrap, and control. It’s rape culture, and it’s dehumanizing as fuck.

Right. Democrats need to gear up right now for the inevitable smears and misinformation that the Right will use. @antifaoperative.bsky.social has been keeping a list of MAGA who have been arrested for underage sex and rape and these should be used. Because you can be sure the Republicans will.

petra de asis@petradeasis.bsky.social

Because his diagnosis of the problem is inaccurate. Without taking into consideration the asymmetric info infrastructure, changing people won't change the ecosystem. The rightwing & Russia specialize in smear campaigns & character assassinations. People like Hogg help them along. Amplify Dems.

This is key. Having Tim Walz, van Hollen, Bernie and AOC out there is well and good, but there needs to be some coordination or it's wasted. The 'leadership' is sitting on their hands waiting for a blue wave next year, which won't come unless they act with some urgency.

bmkhawk.bsky.social@bmkhawk.bsky.social

I don't give a shit who says it, but Dems need far fewer conflict adverse geriatrics that don't have the energy to fight. It's a political war right now and we need more people that act like it.
