Did Dat Dude Describe Destroyer? - “a podcast”
tomharrison.bsky.social, Destroyer superfan, and badfuckinpodcasts.com, Destroyer neophyte, review the discography of the weary literary drunk Dan Bejar album-by-album
If you like podcasts like U Talkin U2 2 Me, and further like the comedy of Branson Reese (you should like both or else you’re so stupid), you must check out this ep of my podcast about the band Destroyer. It’ll make you go “haw haw”
OUT NOW: @bransonreese.bsky.social joins us for talk of xylophones, New Order, massive concussions, getting his ass kicked by a child (twice), and of course, Destroyer’s fourth album Streethawk: A Seduction, their first front-to-back classic. This is top tier podcasting. Tune in or else.

Riley tells a story in this one about a kid at his school who sang a Sarah McLachlan song to a solo cello accompaniment to the whole class after his breakup. Branson and I took immense psychic damage from this evenbefore learning IT WORKED and made the kid MORE POPULAR

Tomorrow we release our next episode, on Destroyer’s fourth album Streethawk: A Seduction, the first one I would call a front-to-back banger masterpiece. We got @bransonreese.bsky.social on this one and it is simply out of this world podcasting. Be ready for it!!
Remember to email your non-music-related questions to destroyerpodcast@gmail.com! We are recording with another guest this Tuesday. I'd say who but then you people would just ask them questions about their work which is not allowed for the same reason music questions aren't allowed (funny)

I was going nuts trying to find Superconductor's Hit Songs for Girls after John Collins spoke so highly of it on our latest episode. Then he sent me the link. To a YouTube video with 394 views. Folks we have to bump those numbers up. This album is a ripper
He also sent me this Destroyer cover of New Order's Leave Me Alone they did in 2012 for a compilation MOJO Magazine put out. I had never heard of this shit before. 133 views. I am loathe to skip ahead chronologically but OH MY GOD this is a FUCKING GEM AMONG GEMS
Our Mass Romantic episode is live! This is our first episode with a guest, and folks: it’s John Collins, bassist/producer of both Destroyer and The New Pornographers. The sheer number of fun facts and kooky anecdotes John shares on this episode is unreal. One of the best podcasting experiences ever
I offered John a standard interview, thinking there was no way he’d want to do a normal ep with our insane format. Turns out he did! When he learned we’d also be covering New Pornographers records, he said he’d probably have the most fun talking about Mass Romantic. We were like uhhh that’s next sir

Listen to Did Dat Dude Describe Destroyer folks. This episode rips so hard. Mass Romantic is an atom bomb of a record that everyone loves and we got John Collins from the band yapping about it with us. This is such a triumph imo

Hey I can't believe this fucking happened. Holy shit. There's a part in the episode where we ask what an instrument is and he lifts his computer to fucking point at it on the ground behind him. My god.

I'd never heard of Destroyer, and I'm following along with Riley, not listening ahead, lingering on each album, and I can feel my appreciation growing each time through.
If you listened to our last episode (or have looked at the timeline of Dan Bejar's music) you know that the next album up is not by Destroyer, but The New Pornographers.
This is a problem because Dat Dude will NOT be describing Destroyer. Luckily we foresaw this issue. Behold our new art:
DID YOU KNOW?: It's actually good for me to buy vinyl copies of all the Destroyer albums I don't have already. It's not frivolous spending. It's research.
If your favorite podcasts are not made by "a couple guys," I am afraid I have very little respect for you. This is an art form that can only excel in the hands of weird freaks
I had never heard this album before because I am a fake fan. Turns out it has such treasures within it.Riley proposes in this episode that if you took that first five tracks of Thief and then ended with the title track, you would have one of the best EPs ever made. I cannot disagree. “what a banger”
Episode 3 is out! We cover Thief, Destroyer’s third album and first really good one! How did Dan get so good so fast? How did Destroyer become an indie darling across the continent? Can Riley 3D-print themselves into a new hit podcast where he sends disembodied plastic fingers to people? Find out!
More and more people are saying Did Date Dude Describe Destroyer is just as good as R U Talking REM Re: Me, and that Tom and Riley are just as talented as Adam Scott. Wow—I would never say that personally, I’m just reporting the facts. How amazing…
Our second episode is live! We cover Destroyer’s second album City of Daughters, their first release of music that sounds like they did it on purpose. But before that, Tom and Riley fuck around, issue corrections, read reviews, and answer non-music related questions. Check it out!!
@dddddpodcast.bsky.social (Just finished listening to the City of Daughter’s episode) okay yeah No Ceasefires! and Dark Purposes are just in my music rotation now.

Can confirm I edited this sucker in time and it will be out tomorrow. IMO a truly great piece of podcasting. Had a lovely time building out the context/story of this album, and Riley and I had a wonderful discussion as always. You gotta listen to 5D or you’re a chump and suck ass
This Monday, September 21 (probably) we release our third episode, covering Destroyer’s third album Thief!
LP2 was a massive jump up from LP1 and Thief continues the trend, hugely improving over City of Daughters. A shame about the album cover, which looks like if Space Channel 5 sucked ass

Recorded our episode on Destroyer’s third album Thief last night. What can I say but “this podcast is funny.” Will let you know when to expect its release once I am through editing

WOW!! I can’t believe our silly lil show got an endorsement from a Big Podcast like Anime Sickos! This it the kind of recognition that makes it all worth it…
We didn’t have time to record bc Tom was on vacation last week. So we just put the first episode of Did Dat Dude Describe Destroyer, Tom’s other show with @badfuckinpodcasts.com, on the feed. It’s silly and fun and you should check it out! Follow it at @dddddpodcast.bsky.social if you like it
We are recording our next episode (covering Destroyer’s third album, Thief) this Wednesday. If you have any non-music related questions for Tom and Riley, send them to destroyerpodcast@gmail.com right away!!
So this podcast succeeded because it DID get me to listen to newer Destroyer. Because I went “oh jeez We’ll Build them A Golden Bridge is bad, it has to get better right?” And it turns out YES, it turns out when you listen to a few songs from Kaputt you go “okay I see why this is a podcast now” lol
Fellow Americans: are you guilty and ashamed of our evil pedophile king’s treatment of our noble Canadian neighbors? Do your penance by listening to our podcast praising a weirdo Canadian band and all your sin will be washed away: “it’s a DDDDD guarantee!”
OUT NOW: It’s our seventh “Oops! All Goofs!” ep, and the only to come by the name honestly: we had a topic ready to go but got so wrapped up in talking about Kengan Omega, sardines, bike helmets, and Swan Boy that an hour went by before we got to it. Oops! Luckily me and Joe talking is the best shit
