Zhang Shan won the gold medal for the mixed skeet shooting event in the 1992 Olympics. The International Shooting Union *immediately* banned women from competing against men.

Fun fact: Women's sports are segregated not to protect women, but to protect *men* from losing *to* a woman. Don't believe me? Look up Jackie Mitchell. Struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Then suddenly women were unfit to play baseball.

I hiked this exact trail - started in Magome, ended up in Tsumago. It was an incredible experience through the countryside. If you're planning to visit Japan, definitely try to include the countryside, not just the cities. Ah... I miss Japan.

The Magome-Tsumago section of Japan's Nakasendo Trail is about 8 km and takes 2-3 hours at a gentle pace. It's well-maintained with signage in English and Japanese - perfect for a day hike through Edo-era post towns. buff.ly/MMuJ93g

New Mexico's economy is a fraction of the size of New York City's. If they can enact universal childcare — and relieve working families of a crushing cost burden — surely we can too. It's just a question of political will.

19thnews.orgNew Mexico will be the first state to make child care freeThe program, which is expected to save families $12,000 per child annually, is available to all residents regardless of income.

I love seeing cool shit like this.

Did a fun little ocarina experiment - using narrowband spectrum analysis in Godot to detect pitch and recognize songs! #GodotEngine #gamedev #indiedev #Zelda

This is Blue. He learned to point at his treats so he can let his family know when he wants one. May or may not be abusing his new power. 13/10

Let's talk about these two department store owners: brother and sister Louis Bamberger and Caroline Bamberger Fuld. From Newark, New Jersey. They are random people, basically. But in the late 1920s, with fascism taking over Europe, they made a choice that profoundly changed the world: 🧵

To my #deaf community who does #programming & #coding, I would love it if you could share your career experiences. Do you work with a Deaf/HoH- focused company, or within a hearing-dominant organization? What’s it like for you? Help other budding Deaf/HoH devs get an idea of the climate.

I also ask this because I’ve been somewhat involved in a hackathon with hearing people for the first time since graduating uni in my 30s and I feel such a disconnect, culturally and communication-wise. Not their fault either, and we make it work but to imagine that on a daily basis for work… 🤯

Also: I struggled with learning resources and self-learning coding as a Deaf person with mild ADHD and the entire industry is so hearing-dominant, it spills into the curriculum you see on YouTube, Udemy, etc. too. How did you guys learn how to code without AI holding your hands and doing the work?

You are up to date.
