Autistic people who want to convey what a bad texture feels like could use this phrase: "a place of immense horror and anguish." Also try to make your face look like the dog's expression.

lmao the 3 supposed finalists for next James Bond were all born in the same 107-day period, and are all the same height, within an inch (and are all white and all male because of course they are).

There are times when I find trying a food and not liking it to be emotionally devastating. (Sounds like Tumblr-style over-exaggeration but it's not.) Sometimes it's my sensory reactiveness but others even just a brief cognitive "I don't like this" plummets my emotional state into a near meltdown.

Props to autistic 'same foods' (self-selected, dependable, repeated foods), as they can be "vital for emotional regulation, stability, & joy" and also when discussed in community may provide "connectedness & reduced isolation through shared experiences." New paper: neuroconverse.org/index.php/jo...

This is reminding me that my favorite genre of music is "songs with lyrics that sound like they were written by an autistic person or someone with clinical depression, or both."

actually They Might Be Giants aren't a comedy band. you see the singers for comedy bands all have chemistry teacher voice, but they might be Giants combines both Math teacher voice and AP US History teacher voice

Saw a company today that says it is "a global AI-led professional services firm." Um, that's not a flex, friend. "We do what the language-faking machine tells us to do." 😬🤬😬

Looking through my WIPs, I came across a rare thing: For some reason, in this WIP from a prompt that a particular character accidentally marry a 17-year-old*, I had copied in info about Capnocytophaga infections. ??? Medical canon so there may have been a genuine reason but idk what it was.

#ficwip@ficwip.bsky.social

This week's word is... ✨ RARE ✨ Find the word in any WIP & share the sentence containing it. All writers welcome. #wordgamewednesday

In my fic, the character actually married an age-appropriate adult but a 17 year-old with a similar name puts their own name and info on employment paperwork to get medical benefits. 👍 Also there is a surfing accident and a dispute over a coffee maker. So capnocytophaga could be in there but idk why

"These are the photos that will make Daddy pay child support!" (This is obvs a manipulated photo; it hit my funny bone while shopping for manila envelopes)

Agree. They don't want people being "misdiagnosed" because it implies to them that they should have a bit of consideration of other people! And they want to go on pretending otherwise. In the US, see RFK Jr.

Sarah D@pikapies.bsky.social

They don’t want people being ‘misdiagnosed’ because they don’t want people being correctly diagnosed because that means they ask for silly stuff like medication and support and accommodations when they should just shut up and go to work and be productive like normal people.

The Tufted ground squirrel (Rheithrosciurus macrotis) is a riddle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in floof. Let's start with the *FLOOF* & talk about why they're called "VAMPIRE SQUIRRELS" last. They have the largest tail: body size ratio of any mammal on Earth: the tail is *130%* the size the body.

McSweeney's is a humor site... but this one hits deep.

"I don’t know what every person in that group saw or knew. But I am raising one of the others. The boy who might someday be in the room. Or holding the phone. The boy who didn’t do it. The boy who could therefore spend the rest of his life explaining that he didn’t do anything." buff.ly/z7yWbR2

The internet allowed me to connect with my kind of weirdo, something which wasn't available to me in my locality. Turns out they were there; we just didn't happen to run into each other. But on the internet, no matter how niche your interest, you could find your weirdos.

we fucking loved it, even when there was basically nothing on it, and let me tell you something else: we loved it because of human connection, human diversity, human creativity. WE DON'T NEED A SINGLE THING ANY OF THESE COMEMIERDAS HAVE MADE AND TRIED TO SELL US IN ORDER TO HAVE A GREAT INTERNET.

Mine was Jaws. I didn't even see it; a teen relative told me about it. Had literal nightmares. Living in a coastal town made it more real for young me.

In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?

That was fun! A Guy Ritchie movie, so yeah, if you like Guy Ritchie movies, you'd probably like this. :D

Just started watching a movie on Netflix, and it's got Reacher, Enola's brother Sherlock, Young Sherlock, and the hottest guy from Crazy Rich Asians. And apparently The Dread Pirate Roberts and Maurice from the 1980s movie Maurice are going to show up at some point. O_O yeah, let's give this a shot

In one of the first cyberpunk novels (iirc), before we had Acela, it was called BAMA, the Boston-Atlanta Metropolitan Area. And of course in Demolition Man, they worked for the city of San Angeles.

The future of America is that there are five cities: * San Francisco * Da Pope-icago * Acela Corridor Megalopolis * Cascadia * MegaDenver

"He was the hardest he'd ever been." Yeah? Is there an objective scale? Does he write down the measurement after every erection?

Gotta smell/taste of thing, thing, and something else, something uniquely them.

Great (genuinely). Now he needs to do this for trans people. Encouraging people to thrive and protecting those who are vulnerable also key parts of Jesus's message!!!

“Most Americans are pro-immigrant,” Talarico says. “Throughout US history, immigrants have always made us richer and stronger.” Trump's barbarities have opened the way to a new consensus. Talarico is giving voice to it in moral language that Dems can learn from. 5/5 newrepublic.com/article/2160...

No, I don't want to play purity politics. I want people's rights to be protected. Talarico had the courage to speak out about the moral imperative of valuing immigration. I want him to also speak out about protecting the rights of trans people. MY trans friends don't want to be thrown under the bus.

Teach your son to wait. Teach him that other people are as important as he is. Teach him to apologize and go back to the end of the line if he made an entitled decision. Teach him that girls and women deserve respect in *all* scenarios—not just during sex.

I used to get very upset with myself for "cheating" on a solo game (it was first looking in the back of a logic problem workbook to give myself hints), then I realized: so what? I'm playing this game/puzzle to have fun. No one else is affected if I play it on "easy" mode. Find a hint, keep playing!

Annalee@flowerhorne.com

None of those concerns apply to a single-player video game, where they actually ARE the main character, and the only time they're spending is their own

Ooh, can the platform offer a "round up to make it even" option like stores in the US do? For those who are awful at math.

The Daily Tism@thedailytism.com

A very funny thing is happening where our lovely autistic audience is so horrified with the weird numbers that everyone’s trying to fix it at once, causing further weird numbers. Have we accidentally stumbled on the world’s most neurodivergent marketing strategy???

To add: 95) Charming asshole ushers in asshole trend in TV shows, albeit without the "great sort of weird romantic love" between two male lead characters (quote from EP and star Hugh Laurie)

BOO! My word game doesn't have the word "disgregation" in it, a word I learned doing an MST of a fic that misspelled "discretion" as "disgression." It means "separation of components" and made such a lovely joke for House to make "it's the process Wilson has to go through to get out of bed."
