Big news out there for anyone who uses Scryfall on their sites hotlinking And a friendly reminder to scroll ALL the way down the page to get the .PNG download of the card or Art Crop (Plus the pastable text copy is great for basic Alt Text of the card on BSky posts)

Follow up: Why? Saves us 40% on bandwidth yes really My software!? → The PNG version isn't going away, only the site images will be WebP. We never displayed PNGs unless you had Caster Mode on. WebPs have been live on the site since July 2026. If you're not having issues, enjoy the faster site

On January 1st, 2027, Scryfall will transition to providing only WebP for most of our images. More information available here for developers: scryfall.com/blog/new-web... PNG version isn't going away for content creators, but you won't be able to hotlink the PNGs anymore.

Yesterday, Wizards informed us that it doesn’t intend to voluntarily recognize the D&D or Studio X units of our union ahead of a vote. We remain committed to creating a workplace focused on wellness, transparency, and collaboration by winning our coming election.

Four things started happening last year: 1. Vibe coding took off as a concept. 2. Scryfall started getting DDoSed on the regular by people running apps making hundreds of thousands of requests in an hour. 3. We started getting a lot more “please unblock me” contacts. 4. That thing. ☝️

I used to answer all of these requests directly. Sometime last year they all started asking questions clearly answered in our docs that nobody who knew what they're doing would ever have to ask, nor would even write. I've stopped reading or responding.

Multiple times a week we get some huge AI-generated block of text sent in to our Feedback ticket system asking permission to use our public API. It's a public API. With documentation. You do not need to ask our permission to use our publicly documented API that is public. And documented. Holy shit.

This fucking sucks. Foiling out my commander decks is something I love doing and it's hard enough when they don't print some rares/mythics in foil. :( I have 9 decks that are as foil as they can be. Most are 100/100.

God Pack business aside, the least fun consequence of Collector Boosters becoming the sole source of Foil Commons and Uncommons is that they won't be printed in Spanish or Italian, since CBs aren't available in those languages.
