How far does it go before the "more new players is always good for Magic" crowd realizes this is all their fault lol I'm so glad we watched Magic turn into a gacha game instead of telling a bunch of finance bros to fuck off!

This only became Hasbro's highest earning product because the worst people on earth were actively encouraged to remain in the scene while anyone who pointed out what happened to Pokemon was villified. Can't wait for the parasites to move on to their next hobby to monetize and kill.

“Players don’t care unless it’s rare, so no more foil commons and uncommons in play boosters.” “The main driver for tanking foil prices were the Collector Boosters flooding the market with foils.” “Don’t worry. We’re also removing three non-rare foils from collector boosters.”

Uuuuuuugh. Why is change always bad with Magic? God packs are so rare they basically don't matter and will fuck up a prerelease or draft often enough that it is annoying. As someone who enjoys pauper and cube I'm kind of annoyed that you're just going to increase the cost of foils. This sucks.

Change is not always bad, god packs are not bad from this very same announcement But because the community sucks everything is perceived as negative. You are all doing the old "there's $20 bills in packs but I don't like how they were folded :/"

Taking cards away from collector boosters is bad. Taking foil commons and uncommons from boosters is bad. I'll never open a god pack even if I play for another 10 years. After 30 years of playing Magic all they have done in the last 10 years is make things worse. No wonder everyone I knew quit.

Also there is official messaging that I forms stores that if a God Pack is opened they just let the player keep it, remove from the play pool, and replace at no cost.

Really long time player who's been a vocal hater about a lot of things y'all have done in recent years - a foil in every pack and making foil c/u cards way more accessible was one of the few things I thought you got right, and I think undoing that is a mistake.

"we expect the first person to open one to briefly lose their mind" the first to open one in their prerelease kit will have to sit through everyone scooping rather than face the guy with 3x the rares as everyone else, but at least the investor bros are happy or whatever

Foil commons and uncommons may not be particularly exciting, but they're still important for those of us that collect things like cards by a specific artist or creature type. Making these substantially more scarce doesn't really serve anyone

So... foil commons and uncommons are now going to be less common than foil rares? That seems... backwards. Just go back to boosters being 11 commons, 3 uncommons, and 1 rare/mythic, with a foil replacing a card of its own rarity. It worked fine for years, you never needed to tinker with it.

This is embarrassing. You should be embarrassed. Your production pipeline being so badly messed up you can't have foil commons and uncommons anymore should be a banshee wail letting you know you are dying.

do you hear that? that’s the sound of the one in four cases (that’s twenty-four (24) collector BOXES, which would run you about $12k if we were to use Reality Shift as a reminder) chance at getting a god pack complain less and c o n s u m e.

Ironically MaRo just recently put out a podcast that mentioned how the smaller pack size for aftermath boosters was part of what players hated about them. Collector boosters were already so overpriced it’s hard to imagine ever buying one if they’re also taking cards away.

Do people who open collectors boosters do so for the common uncommon slot? 9 out of 10 times I see people open them at stores they get left on the table, donated, or thrown away. I am having trouble seeing any problems in these changes.

Been buying 4 to 6 collector booster box every release from OG Eldraine to Secrets of Strixhaven. Was having fun collecting master sets while opening boosters. Was mad at the number of UB sets taking over and the global impact of UB on MSRP of boxes. MSRP is a mess and now this? I’m out.

This is a horrible change. Cutting cards from an already expensive product so you can add another chase card to in turn increase the price of an already expensive product is just robbing your consumers.

Wait, people like the Japan showcase cards? I've never encountered anyone who does. God packs means even more gambling and scalping at the expense of gameplay, and the commons and uncommons in CBs were nice to get playables you didn't have to buy separately. Complete L in my book, WotC...

Fair enough, there have to be some people who do. However, I am convinced that the vast majority of people were excited about pulling them because due to their rarity, they fetched absurd amounts of money from the people who are interested in them.

So, with decades of experience printing cards, you "had to" cut some cards because it's just so difficult? Gotta respect treating the people paying for your success with utter contempt, but it does strike me as a bad business decision...

So... foil C and U are now a Collector exclusive? Interesting choice, but fine. Not many of them are used in constructed formats, I suppose. But cutting 3 cards out of the Collector Boosters without replacements or price change is wild! I'd rather take those cut foil C and U than nothing.

Why are we leaning into TCG to collect and not to play? The reason my partner and I prefer MtG is because the focus is on playing - not collecting. This feels like WOTC has hit production limits, and to make up for it they're more interested in appealing to social media collectors than the players.

Hasbro is more concerned with profit than playability. Has been for years. The weird part is that Collector Boosters are already nearly impossible to find in stock, so these aren't really boosting sales. Maybe it'll lead to more Play Booster sales...

They saw the pokemon scalper fistfights and said “we want some of that”

If we wanted to exist in a culture of melodramatic white boys screaming cause they opened a "God pack", we would play Pokemon. This just smacks of how out of touch WOTC/Hasbro is with their actual audience.

One of the benefits to a shift like this is that singles of lowest rarity versions often become dirt cheap. Playing becomes easier. Pokemon is very easy to play for that reason. Way cheaper than Magic. Yugioh is more expensive to play because collectors don't have reasons to open packs.

So, are you going to be sending stores free product to replace a God Pack in a sealed or draft pool with or are we just ignoring that half your reason for these changes is about keeping up with distribution demand? How many stores will just not be able to replace a pack because of low inventory?

The problem isn't price, it's stock. The last three prereleases I've been to have all struggled to have packs by the end. And of course, they have. Hobbit was scalped hard. RF is undergoing delays. Avatar hit some snags. My LGS gave credit instead of prize packs because they ran out of Hobbit.

Like, I'm not saying it is going to cost LGSes hand over fist dollar-wise. The problem is truly that they are struggling to have enough packs for everyone as is and this does nothing to solve that problem and actively makes it worse.

I have to believe someone in a position of power had to have these questions because if they didn't, it's so flagrantly irresponsible towards sealed and that's on top of all the other reasons these changes are massively objectionable. I'm legitimately baffled at how you refuse to engage with reality

Stores are already struggling to keep enough product for prizes and for sale and you just had to cancel an entire product. You have a solution to this problem you invented that will feel bad for less informed players when they have to draft their pack because the store has nothing else.

Or any sealed event where a lack of replacement packs means that you have to choose between someone only getting 5 packs to build with or having a significantly better chance of sweeping. Just wait until this happens at a competitive event and watch how pissed it makes people.

God Packs were done with Theros, and they absolutely ruined the draft experience every time one popped up. At best, they made the games ridiculously slanted. At worst, they incentivized a player to quit mid-draft and walk away with a bunch of valuable cards, which ruined the entire draft.

Those odds for "god packs" is so abysmally low that I find myself just going "... meh". I've already been moving to buy less packs and more singles just due to the general state of the cost of living going up and none of these changes do anything to change my mind. Simply meh.

This is just simply shrinkflation. You want to take the collector market from Pokemon (you're never gonna fyi), and this is just your attempt to try. You want to give your players (re: the people buying your product) less in order to entice bigger fish to mass buy all of your set a la scalpers.

You want to hand this game over to JUST collectors and frankly I don't want to let you. I don't want this game to go to a few chuds who would sell their mom for a nickel if it meant a dollar more in profit. This is our game too, not just yours. I wish that mattered more these days but I guess not

Can't wait for 2030. Marvel's Leftover Superheroes! 2 cards per pack! Chase 1 of 1 Blackagar Boltagon! Every rare breaks a format completely! Reserve your $5000 scene box with 9 textless art cards before the scalpers buy them all!

No. More of this crap should go to collector boosters and stay out of draft boosters. It's a lightning rod for scalpers so regular products remain accessible. If all the dumb special treatments are in regular boosters, we'll have pokemon's problem.

If you are reducing the number of cards we are getting, the prices need to go down, full stop. This is 100% shrinkflation that you are trying to cover up by throwing this god pack concept out. If you want to reduce the number of commons and uncommons in Collector Boosters, just put more rares in it.

This is… profoundly disappointing. I don’t have any questions, I’m just really upset to see to company behind a hobby I have loved since childhood succumb to profit and greed over community, consistency and integrity… tell me you hate your players without telling me you hate your players…

Please bring back the foil commons and uncommons. I really look forward to get foils of the certain commons and uncommons in each set. Having a foil in each pack is cool. It is disappointing that the only way to get them will be in collector packs. It really feel like a let down.

Also your justification for cutting 3 cards is Youtube videos from content creators??? Smh. You know that's not a majority of your audience right?

Massively disappointed. I won't be buying collector boosters anymore, and I'm a massive fan of them. Wait in line at Microcenter so they are somewhat affordable. I can't justify spending more money on less cards. The math isn't mathing.

Disappointed that rares are more likely to be foil but very happy that commons/uncommons are no longer foil. I live in an area where foils are unplayable due to humidity. I think play boosters should focus on actual gameplay first. Cards shouldn't be foil exclusive.
