🗺️ That guy who makes maps of #Metroidvania games

Silver Pines goes into my A Tier for metroidvanias. All endings, all items, all achievements. Great time.

People complaining that Silver Pines isn't a metroidvania because of "equipment gating" rather than "ability gating" really need to go & look at the Metroid games. You wanna argue that Bombs, Power Bombs, Missiles, Super Missiles aren't equipment?! Stupid hill to die on, but that's fanbases for ya.

Up to 27 hours on mapping End of Abyss now. Probably the most complicated game I’ve ever tried to map.

Loved the Belmont's Curse demo, frankly. I thought it was great. Super excited to play a CV game that isn't tied to the igavania label.

Over two weeks since launch: 92% positive on 102 reviews so far! I've had a lot of people reach out to tell me how much the game resonated with them; one guy was telling me about how he's been playing it with his son, and he figured out some of the more clever puzzles #indiegame

I love re-upping this: for decades the main library at UCLA had the generic name University Research Library because the person most responsible for getting it built was an English professor named Hugh G. Dick and the university refused to name it after him.

Tell me a fun fact.

Camera in @mortalshellgame.bsky.social still needs work, sadly. It moves too much and too quickly all on its own. It needs to chill, especially if you’re on a slope and locked on to an enemy. Also, the number of flashbang fade-to-whites is horrible for the eyes. There are many things that I like —

— some of the two handlers feel superb to wield, and I like the active/passive pickups system — but the absolute drought of beacons in the upper section of the map feels terrible.

I'm not a smol bean. I’m a Goddamn sexual Tyrannosaurus and I know how to make games with no money and no AI 🦖

it really is fucking depressing and not only that but very annoying to see so many game devs do the "im a smol poor bean" disclaimer trying to justify their use of AI, even if its just a tiny bit.

I really wish all soulslike games had the feature that "The Surge 2" has, where they track how many times you die to each boss.

“Be a fan but don’t be in the fandom” is some of the best advice for anything hobby-related.

I hear people are complaining about the “bright” and “garish” colours in Belmont’s Curse. May I direct your attention to “Harmony of Dissonance”? (Side note, I think CV:BC looks fucking rad and I am VERY excited to play it. It looks 100% Castlevania to me.)

Those moments where Davinci Resolve just crashes while uploading videos are even more annoying than when it crashes when it's actually rendering something. Like, I get that it might overload the PC when it's rendering out a video at 300fps, but when it's not doing that... that's just dumb...

At some point, people will rediscover the fairly significant differences between a "review" and "first impressions". Until then, I guess YouTube comment sections are the place to be if you ever need a reminder how far literacy levels have fallen. JFC. 🤦🏻‍♂️

For fickle are the wishes of the Miracle, Sinners. Blasphemous: Martyrs' Edition, a premium physical edition, arrives October 30th, 2026 for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Pre-orders start soon for 49.99€ / $49.99 / £44.99. More info here: bit.ly/MartyrsEdition

Worth it for GRIME alone, but getting Afterimage and Islets in with that makes it a steal.

I finished maps for Harmony of Dissonance and Aria of Sorrow over the last few days. Only right that I do Circle of the Moon. Haven’t played this one since it came out on GBA and boy am I slowly remembering why I never played it again… #castlevania #map

Echo Weaver was a surprise hit for me from the NextFest demos I’ve covered so far. I’m still worried it’s time puzzle shenanigans may challenge my pea brain in later areas, but the demo left me wanting more — which is kinda the point of a demo.
