She turned down the Presidential Medal of Freedom three times. First time: Offered during Donald Trump's administration, she turned it down because her husband was ill. Second time: Offered again by the Trump administration, she declined because she would not travel during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Third time: Offered during Joe Biden's administration, she declined out of concern that accepting it might make her appear politically involved. She also expressed humility, noting she was unsure if she even deserved the award. She was as far from MAGA as one could imagine.

We've decided 9-25 is Dolly's day. We have a month to prepare, and to make this a National if not Global celebration of the best of humanity. Repeat, share, and prepare! Organize a block-party, write a poem, buy some books, sing some music...come together and be good to each other for a day!
