Concealing your true self to achieve a sense of belonging with those who demand that you conceal yourself in order to be accepted will never give you the satisfaction of truly belonging, only a leaky bandage over your wounded heart. The real you is worth celebrating.

There’s a distinct difference to being, once one attempts the mastery of distancing - not from self but from one’s emotions. Maybe others, too. Especially if you’re the empathetic kind. Observing them as an experience as opposed to temporarily lending one’s identity is powerful.
