This note's for Pedolf - from the filing “a blistering anthem that contrasts the hollow promises of American political rhetoric with the harsh realities faced by the poor, homeless and forgotten - the song is the opposite of everything that Donald J. Trump stands for.” Another Canuck stands tall

I joined Medium a few months ago, but life has gotten in the way. Today I decided to combine a few memories with a chapter from the book I'm writing about Grandpa. I do hope you will drop by and give it a read, and if you like it to share. medium.com/@derrylm/one...

BREAKING: Putin And Trump Got Their Teeth Kicked In By Serbia And Brazil On The Same Night. The Beginning of The End Of The Trump Nightmare Is Here.

My son Brennan is a professional youth soccer coach, so I talked with him about it. His takes: - The kid is a great player - If he were coach he'd get the dad (the parents, really) to shut up. They aren't the coaches and should just let young Nevada play

They called the cops on this 3-year-old Black boy because he was kickin the white kids' ass on the soccer field.

But I admit that more often than not kids are reffed by other kids. Young refs, especially newer ones, often don't have the strength or life lessons to be able to stand up to an adult. Especially a vocal one. Of course, there was no ref for young Nevada, and there shouldn't be.

Addendum: the more I read, the more I suspect (and really, even as absurd as this story is, logic suggests as much) the call to the cops went out because of something between the parents. Still appalling, still enraging. Nevada going into Eddie Johnson's program in January suggests he turns 4 then.

Canada stands with Brazil. There will be a growing alliance between Canada and Brazil. The response from MAGA is the language of violence and threat. "The time has come for the wicked and cowardly to meet their rewards." Unhinged nutbars.

Sharing my #OffbeatEats review of Bibis Italianissimo in Leeds, UK. Despite the odd location (it's basically the bottom floor of a car park), they serve up some flavorful Italian food in a nicely-decorated Art Deco dining room, and handle large groups flawlessly. offbeateats.org/2026/10/bibi...

Noted to me that I forgot to say that Bren was appalled that the cops were called. Angry, too. I'd like to note that when I was a board member to solve the problem of *ahem* over-enthusiastic parents, each team had a parent assigned as a steward...

...there to keep other parents on your kid's team under control. As a ref I would sometimes have to go to the coach and ask him or her to get a parent under control, and in this system the coach could call on the steward.

Finally, and me speaking now, as a former club board member and youth coach and ref and, yes, parent, I'm guessing his coach is either very young or a parent. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but I would hope he finds his way to a program that encourages him and helps the other players develop as well.

-Most talented kids don't go on to play D1, much less pro. But part of that is tamping down the talent in the interest of fairness - He and his parents are clearly American, so comments about him going to European academies are pie in the sky. For proof look at Cavan Sullivan or Alphonso Davies...

...who have to or had to wait until age 18 to be able to move to Europe -3 years old is too early to be signed by anybody, but he doesn't need to be only playing games to develop. You want to encourage this talent and skill and - eventually - start in on teamwork

- Moving Nevada up to U7 would be unsafe. The kids there would be too large and are still not in total control of their bodies (or tempers) - Moving Nevada to U7 or older would also send a message that winning isn't important, but with this quality of play you *want* to encourage that

Thread. Having just been in BC and talked with friends on both sides of the divide I can say I’m unsurprised, and wonder about what kind of advice was being offered or ignored when Eby decided to drop the writ. Tragic.

What most people don't know: when you fill up a petrol car most of the energy never moves it. Petrol car: 13–21% of the crude oil's energy reaches wheels. Electric car on today's UK grid: 43–45%. Electric car on wind+solar: 77–80%. That's why we don't need to replace fossil energy one for one.

Passenger flights are (kinda sorta) a wash. It's *so* much better that everyone back of row 12 doesn't have to deal with the cigarette smoke wafting from those first 12 rows, and we can pick and choose our own movies rather than sharing one, but the seats and the cattle herding drag it back down.

It’s come to something when a photographer has to get legal advice, before displaying this photo in an exhibition, due to the risk of being prosecuted as a terrorist, but that’s exactly what I had to do yesterday. What a state this country is in.
