wtf does this even mean, how would "the practice of democratic self-governance" be affected one way or the other by people's rooting interests in other countries

brent 🌹🗽@therealbrent.bsky.social

Yes well it does require things like “empathy” and possessing a basic understanding that all of our lives are interconnected

you can make the argument that it's bad to care what happens in the rest of the world- it's a stupid argument, mostly made by reactionaries- but to say it's bad for our democracy is just nonsense. he's a nonsense man

yeah you can easily be like "it's straightforwardly bad for democracy that oligarchs and fascists are interfering with elections around the world" but his thing is saying the people who don't want that are not just equally morally bad, but anti-democratic themselves. nonsense! total nonsense!

pophouse@pophouse.bsky.social

well the answer is obvious if one is worried about the people who are rooting for and financing a global antidemocracy movement but my guess is that isn't what he is worried about

They're fucking contract soldiers! They all voluntarily signed a dotted line. Russian law bars Putin from sending conscripts into foreign combat zones! He didn't even have the balls to send conscripts to fight in Kursk...RUSSIAN TERRITORY... that's why he brought in the North Koreans.

i feel like at this point some reporter has to ask him about this right. like are we just going to pretend "the president spends all day and night talking about 'the ass of a man'" isn't newsworthy

Ron Filipkowski@ronfilipkowski.bsky.social

We are now at the point where Trump is comparing the asses of Jon Husted and Nicki Minaj.

why would you say anything then, if the concern is an effect on morale. like isn't heavily implying what the blunt message would be effectively the same thing as saying it

BeshearStan@beshearstan.bsky.social

Guys, is it good news when the biggest GOP shill on Twitter is not showing their predictions because of the impending blue wave?

i know he always gets a pass because "that's just trump being trump, he just tells extremely racist and inflammatory lies and it would be unacceptably partisan to report them as such" but this is the president trying to incite anti-somali pogroms

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "Somalia -- 98% of the people here now from Somalia don't work. They don't have to work because they steal so much. They all have a Mercedes Benz. Low IQ and they live better than you do."

the reason you issue preemptive mass pardons is to reassure junior staff who are shitting themselves that they’re safe and they don’t have to flip on you. going to be very important to push back on their validity, which is nil, preemptively also

they should ask trump about it too. "does the fact that military review boards are overriding your trans ban because the soldiers are exemplary make you reconsider your position at all." see what kind of stupid bullshit the fucker cooks up

Give the suspect a medal

🔥👀 The retreat known as the Eagle’s Nest built for Adolf Hitler in the Bavarian Alps was almost completely destroyed in a fire, and work to extinguish the blaze was still in progress Saturday, authorities said. A suspect was detained, - AP News Police later said it burned down almost completely.

One should note that while some of the rightwingers are being like "oh no, this was a mistake, samuel is a good man" plenty of others are like overjoyed that sey may be deported despite his total devotion to their cause

“shepherds for sale” and fellow daily wire staffer meg basham joins allie, noting that people should be consider the fact that this was not a case of “deliberate law breaking.”

a good metaphor for politics is when you have a drill for boring holes in a board, and you find a hard board, and you immediately give up

Jake Grumbach@jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

A helpfully clear exchange here Hasan: "So your argument is that [Minnesota ICE protesters] should stay at home because immigration is a salient issue for Donald Trump. Opposing ICE is only going to help Trump. Wait until we win the election in 2028." Yglesias: "Yes that is what I would have said"

David Friedman's failure to connect what Brad Lander and his group are doing on behalf of innocent Palestinians to the US civil rights movement is in a sense a betrayal of his father, Rabbi Morris Friedman, who marched with MLK jr & led prayer vigils on his behalf when he was assassinated

"The Jews who went to Mississippi didn't take selfies and post tweets." Okay, but honestly, if tweets had been a thing in 1961, many of them probably would have done.

Earlier richest-man-on-earth H. L. Hunt had this same stupid idea, and responded in similar ways! Also had a crazy number of kids! Not sure Elon crawls on the floor like a baby to extend his lifespan, though.

Joel S.@joelhs.bsky.social

One of the most salient aspects of today's politics is how everyone imagines a conspiratorial "them" controlling things behind the scenes. Elon Musk is literally powerful enough to affect the course of the Ukraine war, but he's still imagining faceless puppet masters who need to be unmasked.

it's cool how he's not even doing the thing where he declares victory anymore, just being like "blehhhhhhh yeah i dunno, something will happen or not, this is boring, whatever." that's how you want your superpowers to run, in wars and in all things

WH Press Pool Reports@whpresspool.bsky.social

“No, I think we're not negotiating with. We are going to have something one way or the other that'll happen fairly soon. Most people seem to think it's after the election, and we're going to see what happens. But I will say this: what we've done with Iran is amazing. (8/9)

Just been such a revolution in my worldview to realise that people like Musk actually believe this, this isn't just the nonsense they feed the rubes so they can do coldly rational mercantile calculations in smokey rooms among themselves. No. It's rubes all the way down, they're that stupid.

Toby Buckle@polphilpod.bsky.social

i don't think we can come to a reasonable compromise with this
