The Star Trek shows are one of the great loves of my life. It's casts, crews and writers are surrogate family members for me.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

This article on the BBC asked if it was possible to cheat on a partner with a video game character. If a video game relationship didn't matter then it would invalidate my 20+ year relationship with Bastila Shan from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. 😭 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I've been thinking about politics in Northern Ireland this week. I think that if I had to explain it to an outsider, I would say that we are a country of pyromaniacs. At any moment one of us would feel the overwhelming need to burn the house down, while the rest would stare at the flames.

Strange thought. I have to declutter due to space restrictions, but I'm finding it really difficult to pass things on. Every time I put something aside, I take a second look at it and think that I might need it in the future. It's really frustrating 😕.

I made the mistake of going back to Windows last month, for my daily productivity computing. I thought Windows 11 had learned from its mistakes, but I was wrong. It is a piece of garbage. Fuck Microsoft and all your bloatware A.I. rubbish.

In 1860, a local landowner tried to interfere with public access to a ruined church & graveyard on his land in Killone, Co Clare. Letters to the paper give us a sense of the local reaction - ‘for he who wars with the handful of dust at his feet is no friend to the living’ (Munster News, 14 Jan)

James Dyson, the billionaire inventor of the British vacuum brand, is in a stand-off with locals in Co Waterford over access to a graveyard and historic rights-of-way on the grounds of his estate. Dyson owns the historic 850-acre Ballynatray estate, which he purchased for around €30 million.

I had a moment of existential crisis today, combined with imposters syndrome when I was asked how a zener diode worked and I had to look it up. I've only been an engineer for 3 decades like!

A reward of up to £20,000 is being offered by Crimestoppers for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the murder of Lyra McKee. Ms McKee (29) was shot dead by the New IRA in the Creggan area of Derry on 18 April 2019.

Although this trial might have failed, I hope Lyra McKee's family might get some other type of justice. Perhaps a civil case against the accused might be more successful. I wish them peace and justice.

Speaking as an engineer, I find a lot of the talk about A.I. to be silly and boring. The sooner we stop calling it A.I. and go back to calling it statistics, the better.

I think BBC Radio Ulster needs to seriously reconsider how it frames news stories. Placing a horrific story of an Afghan father being forced to sell one of his children due to extreme poverty, next to a fluff piece about some silly BBC drama, is massively questionable.
