Alright, it’s time for Operation ”Rough In” where Toronto reconfigures Parkside drive to have space for bike lanes but just puts a planter in and calls it a “pedestrian enhancement zone“ until we live in a post Bill 212 world.

On Bradford’s Water Plan: He and his team are so close to literally stating the problem. They just don’t follow this thought to the obvious conclusion. Obtuse on their part. And then they act offended when anyone points out the flaw. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

People often jokingly use the phrase, "the real journey is the friends we've made along the way" but I have to say, it's been amazing to meet so many people during the last week of protests. Software devs, retirees, lawyers, medical techs, students & more all coming together to support each other...

...& people we've never met in solidarity. We've exchanged numbers, planned new projects, & shared silly jokes while watching the Province send taxpayer money down the drain (literally, because they didn't block catch basins...). Protests might not always change policy, but they do change people.

Also, I love comments like ”those activists!!” when I’m an insurance defence lawyer working for an insurance company that insures lawyers.

Rumour has it the last of the lane markings on Bloor from Clissold to Royal York will be removed this evening. Please join tonight's protest - 7 PM at Tom Riley Park - if you can and bring PPE such as N95's and earplugs. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it. #BikeTO #TOpoli #ONpoli #VisionZero

“This costs the same as 3+ Heated Rivalries” has GOT to make it on a sign.

Amelia Smith@nturavrgcistory.bsky.social

Heated Rivalry cost $3 million per episode, about $18 million in total. It was the biggest show on TV last year. This whole endeavour will cost around 3+ Heated Rivalries. But instead, Doug is cutting funding to everything else, including universities, to fund roads being torn up.

TPS is going to have one hell of a WSIAT file for respiratory issues. At least we slowed them down tonight. It ain’t over till it’s over. And it‘s never over.

If only @kenwhite.bsky.social was still around...

Markwayne Mullin reveals that the Trump admin is trying to build a RICO case against Ilhan Omar: "There was conspiracy to deceive the American govt, and therefore everything else that came in with it could then be looked at as the same case ... the statute of limitations on things, they don't apply"

This was very fun to watch in an otherwise pretty tense moment tonight.

A cop car carrying a flashing neon sign that says "DOUG FORD HATES YOU." Perfect, no notes, thanks for the great visual @ TV writers of the universe!

Here's the question wording and crosstabs from their media release. ~500 respondents is a decent, if unremarkable sample size. The question wording seems relatively neutral.

It's October 2024, hundreds of Torontonians show up to protest Bill 212 and the forced removal of bike lanes. It's October 2025, hundreds of Torontonians show up to protest Bill 212 and the forced removal of bike lanes. It's October 2026....

A good reminder that the Hogarth, the Conservative MPP and Minister of this riding, who championed Bill 212 was voted out of office in the last election.

At Bloor and Islington for tonight's #BikeTO direct action against Doug Ford's bike lane removals. The cyclists are spread out from Islington to Royal York but there must be at least a few hundred. The permit starts at 8 PM so expect things to get spicy then. #TOpoli #ONpoli #VisionZero

Truly my best time on the internet was when I was a moderator for a Warhammer 40k forum.

Jared Holt@jaredlholt.bsky.social

Forum boards are the best form of internet, full stop, and the internet began to suck more and more as we strayed from that light

It was insane how much work it was to coordinate “free moving boxes!” was when we finished our move and didn’t want to just recycle them.

giving stuff away on Facebook marketplace and buy nothing groups is such a wiiiild experience. The amount of labor and communication people need to come grab a like, free plant or end table is unreal

Speaking of cognitive decline, reading one of Jeff's books is like the HIT workout of reading. Rewarding, but sometimes my head hurts. I say this as I'm working through Absolution praying it helps stave off the dementia.

Jeff VanderMeer@jeffvandermeer.bsky.social

Also, AI creates cognitive decline, so fuck that.

Does anyone have a citation for the “nurses get algorithmic wage offers based on credit score, so those in a more precarious financial position get offered lower wages” reference that comes up in @doctorow.pluralistic.net’s new book? Because I would love to read more about that.

Like I said the other week, the fact that Cal occasionally goes “gee, one seems to be talking about this!” always drives me a little bonkers. Like, my dude, where you been?

Emily M. Bender@emilymbender.bsky.social

Looking around and saying, "Gee no one is talking about this" is aiding and abetting the erasure and it is not okay. /fin

I read this story and can’t help think of the breathless coverage media has given these delusional fantasies about superintelligent AI killing humanity in ten years, when companies are releasing tools coaching mass shooters and helping people kill themselves. People need to wake the fuck up.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T KNOW YOUR OWN PHONE NUMBER OR ADDRESS?

Matt Ford@mford.bsky.social

Ezra Klein asked Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang about AI making kids worse at math and reading. Huang’s reply: “Does it matter?” Then he said he doesn’t know his own address or phone number. “We’re going to lose some fine intellectual dexterity.” www.nytimes.com/2026/09/23/o...

I see lots of posts re: the BC election being political opportunism and I feel a little crazy just sitting here going, "yeah. that's how politics works?" Fundamentally the job is to secure power to implement your agenda on behalf of your constituents.

I wouldn't? Mostly because I was once told at an info session for articling that you'll usually get offered a drink (water/coffee/tea) at the interview and you should say yes, because they're trying to be normies and break the ice, and they want you to be a normie by saying, "sure, thanks!"
