…let Israel's Unit 8200 store millions of intercepted Palestinian phone calls on their cloud platform. Mass surveillance that helped shape operations in Gaza. Microsoft.

A non-exhaustive list, there’s more criteria for picking an AI provider, and definitely a whole lot more reasons to avoid some companies for anything. I ask you, in our age of billionaires, to spend your money responsibly, and to ask your company to do the same.

…is being sued for wrongful death after teen suicides. In one case an AI mentioned “suicide” 1,275 times in a convo with a 16 year old, not raising any flags. That's OpenAI too.

…paid staff under $2/hour to read and label text describing child sexual abuse, to build a safety filter, causing worker PTSD. That company is OpenAI.

This year there’s been many “how hard can it be? Let’s try!” moments. Today I looked at my rattling bike. Gear 1 is the loudest, 7 the quietest, anything in between skips a notch and feels inconsistent in resistance. I adjusted the rear wheel back, kept nudging until it was straight.

Not as quiet as I wanted but quieter than I expected. It takes a lot less force to cycle too! Turns out it’s not as hard as I thought :)

I’m having fun designing these creatures after getting amazing pixel artwork done by @jarmesan.bsky.social This is Croakwise, he’s not really affected by sound or light-based attacks on account of their advanced age. Just like my grandpa, the TV is at a crazy volume and he doesn’t see very well.

I design my creatures on a wiki. I settled on an offensive/defensive matrix for move type effectiveness. Loads of creatures, loads of options to pick from. In the end I'll know what gaps my typing has, and I'll design creatures to fill that void. #screenshotsaturday

Me on Windows: "Ah, I just have to add it to my path env and my exe will be found from anywhere". Me on Linux: "xterm now uses my path because I changed .bashrc. I'll just get i3 to launch dmenu with a modified var, because I use LightDM and I can't figure out how to get the path var to propagate."

My game currently has 118 creatures, and I just figured if I spend 10 minutes configuring a creature that’ll add up to 20 hours of work. These creatures deserve more than 10 minutes of love a piece! Oh well, time is passing anyway, and I’ve got good tools to make good use of my time.

Since it's my 50th time round the sun, would you care to share my art around? That would be a splendid gift, thank you! 🥰 emilyhare.com #dragons #fantasyart #watercolour #creatureart #unicorns

I'd love to buy comics from Humble Bundle but its so messy. Downloading all content takes forever and hundreds of mouse clicks, issue 3 of 6 is in a different file format, some are zipped, some have internal IDs as a name, some issues don't include the issue number. Takes a day to organize the files

Mostly invisible progress, I thought it'd be great to emulate a design constraint and have the world molded out of 32x32px blocks, as old games had save space. I no longer paint the palette separately, colors are extracted from the tileset so palettes are cooked not hardcoded. #ScreenshotSaturday

Here's various stages of the change. I made a concession and changed it so that we can have separate palettes for tiles and objects, but the colors line up again :D

I decided to update my laptop. A little story. sudo apt update, upgrade, dist-upgrade, autoremove, and a reboot. All seems well but ownCloud was confused, didn’t seem to connect. My ownCloud runs on a raspberry, I haven’t updated that in ages. Let’s ssh into it and do the same.

Turns out ownClouds clients want the latest latest servers that go by a different name, and the latest update I installed isn’t that latest. So my client is too new. I don’t know what ownCloud changed, their latest server apps have a fancy name like “infinity scale”. Sounds expensive. No thanks.

Ok the tool reports nothing wrong. I reboot the router, we’ve been sitting next to it the whole time. Wife upset that I interrupt it for a few minutes. Upon reset my speed is fine, until it wasn’t. Fuck it, push through, let’s diagnose ownCloud. It seems to not find oauth and really want it.

I’ve enable oauth on the server and fixed some configs that the upgrade probably weren’t compatible with. No luck. My wife’s episode ended. My WiFi worked fine again. Wut? She watches YT and nothing happens, I ask her to watch crunchyroll and my WiFi vanishes again. Ok, no anime for you babe, soz.

All services remained down. Raspberry ran hot. Poked it a bit and it seemed to work but very slow. Running ls was tedious. Eventually services came back but git and some http services were still awful. OwnCloud reports it cannot authenticate. The app still works, but the Linux client cannot login.

It’ll have to wait, I see my WiFi is as 30% strength and I can’t ping google with less than 500ms. What’s up with my WiFi? An LLM tells me to install some tools, it’ll take a while as I need to download them using WiFi. My wife is oblivious, watching Crunchyroll from across the room.

For a student project I made a game where you played against two AI. Team IDs were stored in a char_t, player was 0, the AI 1 and 2. My AI code would print debug information so I could inspect it. By coincidence the console showed code page 437 characters. These smileys showed up instead of digits.

Blue Bottle Games, as a policy, does not use generative AI. It's something we've discussed as a team, weighing the pros and cons, and ultimately, we decided it was not for us. Recently, while chatting with a colleague, she mentioned it was useful hearing our reasoning. So: Sharing time! 1/12

2018: based on tracking we’re serving ads in a language you don’t understand as we figured out your location. 2026: Tracking is better now, here is an English ad, dubbed into German by the production company, and then AI-dubbed back to English. It sounds terrible and none of it was needed.

Being a foreigner and traveler I’m amazed by how, despite all tracking done, ad agencies can’t or won’t target their ads to audiences “interested in X” AND “understands language Y”. Btw the AI-dub is impressive how it isolated and replaces the voice, leaving music alone.

AI models for media production are a perfect fit. Cleaning up audio, splitting foreground from background, fixing quality issues, all tasks where the bulk of the data can be synthesized and models can be run locally as they’re small.

GTA5 running on a PS3 with 256MB RAM and 256MB VRAM. Try and boot an OS with those specs. Explain to me why a website easily pulls 100MB for showing text and the occasional image. Let Rockstar reinvent the web - oh, they already have! Give me eyefind.info, and I'll see you later on lifeinvader.com

Anyone know a tool for huge tilemaps on iPad? Ideally the whole world is in one map. Pixquare and Pixaki seem restrained on a maximum size, I could make vignettes and later make the world on PC but switching programs is a hassle. #pixelart #gamedev

In gamedev, we're used to sound coming from single points in space, but how do we handle sound coming from an irregular shape? In this article (with plenty code snippets), I go into details with the Point Cloud Sound technique I'm using for water and foliage: blog.runevision.com/2026/06/poin...

Solo dev recreating 90s style in C++, that sounds familiar 😂 Lovely article, enjoyed the section on color, and the asset pipeline. Sometimes it feels counter-productive to have Kinari render to a Gameboy-esque PPU but I’m holding on to idea!

I’ve spent last week in Slovenia at my new job. Great to get to know my new colleagues a little bit, but very much looking forward to getting back home! I’m very surprised by how much English everyone’s speaking. It’s also a place to buy English books. I’m considering for next time to rent a bike.

My son struggled last time a lot when I left for a work trip. I couldn’t go out without him getting concerned I’d be leaving again. This time he fared a lot better, for which I’m grateful as it would have been tough for him and my wife otherwise. Really glad to be seeing them again in a few hours ❤️

I commission creatures for Kinari. Some design notes are more purposeful, others were rushed and uninspired. Luckily the artist knows how to convert both good and bad ideas into awesome sprites! Made by @jarmesan.bsky.social #screenshotsaturday #indiedev

Woke up early to play some Yakuza, mowed the back lawn, pulled weeds, game programming, more weed pulling, mowed the front lawn (battery is charged again), installed two NICs and benchmarked them, went exploring with my toddler, setup Pi-hole, and setup Wireguard on my tablet.

I’ve been watching King of the Hill consistently for a while now. I’ve never seen it before but I love it. “Peggy Hill in Fortnite” was not on my bingo card, but if I ever start playing there’s nobody I’d rather be playing as

I really love reading public reviews. It shows a strange side of humanity. Today’s kind words were for a public park, 3/5 stars. Applauding the facilities, options, and ambiance. “My only complaint is that almost exclusively foreign neighbors use the place - a bit more diversity would be nice!” 😂
