Hi, new followers! You may know me under other names (none dead but most of them sleeping.) I do online community - I've worked in MMOs, at Metafilter (as restless_nomad) and currently do PA work for SF writers. (DM me for rates!) Stand by for cat pics and rants about the internet. Welcome!

It's convenient for the child rapists who now run EA to claim Veilguard was a massive flop because what they want to do already is eliminate any part of EA that isn't a gambling and sportswashing operation. You don't have to fucking help them.

I deeply resent that my psyche apparently insists on having Spider Dreams every so often. They're not exactly nightmares, they're just dreams that focus on spiders trying to touch me that I really, really don't want touching me.

is this exactly what Cohost wanted to do? Which was a huge regulatory compliance challenge? @rahaeli.bsky.social ?

I _really_ enjoyed Larkwood's first two books and have been eagerly awaiting word of a new one. Yay!

Melissa Caruso@melissacaruso.bsky.social

THE SEVENTH BANISHER by A K Larkwood has Knives Out meets Lovecraft meets Gideon the Ninth vibes with a bunch of terrible but fascinating people trapped on an isolated island murdering their way through mind-blowing plot twists on a creepy magical mansion (out in March): bookshop.org/p/books/the-...

Man there must have been some interesting meetings around WoW Forever. It's not WoW 2, but... it kind of has that shape? I'd love to know what the internal expectations are for it.

Book friends! I am a freelance proofreader looking for more work. I have done a bunch of work with Tor, but I will happily also do nonfiction. Are you a publisher or self-pub author who needs a proofreader, or know one? Please DM. (Please boost for visibility, if you don't mind)

I have made it through three days of peak prednisone. I am feeling enough better that I do not want someone to bring a bar fight to my bedside. I can go out and look for one myself. I dislike predisone.

I doubt anyone on this app cares, but my LinkedIn account was apparently hacked and I don't care enough to give them my government ID. So, if an apparent Swiss blonde bombshell asks you for money or something via LinkedIn, it is not me.

Hey folks! I'm going to have a little medical downtime in early September (cataract surgery) so I'm taking advantage of that enforced rest to offer 4 writing mentoring sessions at $750/each.

Weirdly, I think I'd be fine at running a Poshmark store. I'd have to do a bunch of pricing research to catch up, though.

Thought experiment- if you were suddenly appointed to do your sibling’s job, how badly would you suck at it?

Turns out our minisplits have "formicary corrosion" which is an evocative name for what turns out to be a materials issue that our plumbing company, WHO WE DO BUSINESS WITH REGULARLY, could have _mentioned_ at some point in the several years since they realized it was a problem.

A man who publicly was doing something which, when done wrong, can cause graft-vs-host disease, an autoimmune disease which can attack, among other things, your GI tract, now has an autoimmune disease which is attacking his GI tract. What a coincidence.

Blood transfusions from close relatives can cause graft vs host disease. Close relatives are literally the last people in the world rich weirdos should be roping into their creepy vampire hobby.

Asking this again but at 2p local time

Kevin Riggle@kevinr.free-dissociation.com

I will ask again when it is not 2a local time, but, do I know anybody who has experience with JAMF and CrowdStrike and might be interested in 1099 work? Nothing’s real til the ink is dry but I have a strong potential client where that’s a piece of the work and I could use preexisting expertise

I eat hotdogs either naked or with cheese. The virtues of the proper Chicago dog are lost on me.

Here I invite you to be a micro-heretic. To bring small shame on your people. Tell me about a highly praised thing in your hometown/area that all locals LOVE except YOU. I’m from the Seattle area. Taco Time is nothing special. Bland. Not horrible but not worth going out of your way. Now you go!

You know what I miss from most of the modern radio music I hear these days? The kind of extravagant musicianship that used to be easy to find - instrumental solos, guitarists whose fist I can pick out whoever they play with, that kind of thing. Who's doing that this days that I'm missing?

FOSTER NEEDED! Sweet gray lap-loving kitty guy Parker was struggling to survive on the Baltimore streets, injured and starving. Thanks to a kind person and our Street Kitty Fund, he’s doing much better, but needs a foster home! Help him get a second chance for happiness - contact us!

People look at my sketches and say "hey you're pretty good at that," not realizing that getting to "pretty good" involved art classes through AP Drawing and Painting and literally hundreds of hours of practice. I look mildly talented! I am not talented! I am a highly trained and experienced doodler.

SO many people think that art is a talent you're born with, instead of a skill you learn, develop, and hone, like any other skill.

Right. Of course. Janelle Monáe can time travel. Incorporating that into my worldview.

I've been running gdcparties.com for a few years now. Some shitty company BlueberryAI decided they'd just take all the source code for the work I've done and reskin it, advertising it as their own. Jokes on them...it was still linked to my events spreadsheet, and now their website looks like this 😉

Accountant on one side, for the family junkyard business. The branch that owned it decided they wanted to keep the books in the family and sent him, a cousin, to college for the purpose. Car salesman on the other. Oldsmobiles, iirc. Never met either - they both died quite young of cancer.

Whether or not you’re running for Congress and trying to seem rugged (and you probably should run, because, look who’s out there) what did your grandpas do for a living?

This is a great opportunity to recommend I Am Future, a survival game with this theme. It has a coziness slider!. You just want to potter around and dismantle things and not worry about the evil slugs that eat your lettuce at night? Coziness slider up!

I suppose I should tidy up those three terabyte drives and the seven-year-old nVidia card for sale, shouldn't I.
