The Last Fifteen Minutes is such a beautifully crafted film about finding bittersweet solace and comfort and love in the face of unmitigated disaster, told with Shing's characteristic whimsy and humor and heart, and if you have the chance to see it immediately, you absolutely should 😭❀️

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

So, wait, has NaNoWriMo rebranded as "Novel November", paid for by ProWritingAid, which used to be a spell/grammar checker but now is (you guessed it) an "'AI' grammar checker"--in short, yet another way for a griftslop machine to grab human-written text? Do I have that right?

There was a fucking hole in our planet’s *atmosphere* Like a legit, no joke, β€œthis will unravel our entire ecosystem” hole in the world, and then we fixed it by working together across national and political lines As a species we decided, β€œwe will survive” Let’s do that some more

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Upright Women Wanted by @sarahgailey.bsky.social is about anti-censorship traveling librarian outlaws in a post-apocalyptic American Southwest. As I read it, I kept wondering how Gailey managed to capture the setting vibes of Laura Ingalls Wilder while telling a story with very different values.

Have we made it to the Skydome? Yes. Has a human mistaken me for a sausage and placed me on a gravy fountain? Also yes. We are masterful snake-ret agents and I will take no questions.

Writing tie-ins is *a real fucking skill* and anyone who sneers at the people who do it can go piss up a rope. You think it's easy to write an entire novel to very specific order on an almost impossibly tight deadline? And have it be satisfying to read? Motherfucker, *you* try it. See how you do.

Kate Tell-Tale Heartfield@kateheartfield.com

There is a doofus currently arguing here that no "creative talent" would choose to write tie-ins, and since I just did a panel this weekend on why creative talents choose to write IP, here are a few reasons. Non-financial reasons, for fun and because frankly it usually doesn't pay that well.

Recently went through a pretty zesty medical crisis (everything is fine) and got some great advice on enduring out the extremely unpleasant neurochemical symptoms, which felt (but weren't actually) unsurvivable. I have applied them to a lot of things in the past few months.

The doctor who figured out what was going on said: You're riding an elephant. It's scary and you don't want to be up there, but you won't fall off and die. You just gotta go wherever that elephant goes until it slows down enough to let you off.

thank u, hexed@lindsaykingmiller.bsky.social

"men don't like short hair" "men don't like tattoos" "you'd be prettier if you lost weight" sir, let's get on the same page: I am not trying to fuck you

Canadian customs cop just semi-indignantly asked where I'd been and then said "welcome home" in an extremely comforting voice so sorry everyone I live in Ottawa now forever
