I make games and I hate AI.

Desperately want to be fully rid of Microsoft and Windows at this point and fully transition to Linux but there are still a few softwares I use for my “day job” that don’t work as well and the alternatives… aren’t so great. Should I just get a Mac for that or…?

I got laid off in August and I’ve spent a good chunk of time since then becoming actually good at game dev. I’ve been making games since high school on and off and it’s a dream of mine but I spent most of that time in tutorial hell Today I made a lil mini game without much looking up. Hell yeah.

I can’t wait to not feel like Im missing out on the next gen consoles.

I think this whole thing with the rise of AI all in Steam Next Fest kinda proves my theory that all these tech bros flooding the market with slop think that gamers will buy literally anything. They have lumped them into the same category as Facebook boomers, and software companies.

I spent most of my adult working life in software sales and I know how quite literally, VC backed software companies will *literally* buy anything and everything they can to make investors think they’re getting something for all that money being invested. They think gamers do the same exact thing

Like none of it is about “making game development more accessible.” These tech bros just think and hope that they can make a quick buck off another market that “will buy anything put in front of them.”

Weren’t there like recap scenes in Dynasty Warriors 3 in between each musou stage that showed what was going on elsewhere in the world? What happened to those in the remaster? Or was that DW2?

I used to think dynasty warriors was niche as hell. I grew up on that shit because my uncle worked at Koei Tecmo and would send us copies. I had only ever met one other person in my life who played them. Suddenly with the DW3 remaster there are fans everywhere

saw an extraction shooter that's coming out in a few days that has an AI disclosure stating that they are using GenAI specifically for one of the "AI" NPC's because using a human voice actor would be "cultural appropriation..." Is that serious? Are we making stuff up now to justify AI use in games?

I’m like 99% likely to get fired from my totally and absolutely wonderful tech sales job next Monday and I might just take that opportunity to make small little indie games.

There is a map making tool I use often called Inkarnate and when faced with backlash for using GenAI in their ads, instead of doubling down, they took it down and now they do not allow anything genAI related into their software. Godot can and should do the exact same thing with 4.7.x ASAP.

I did it. I finally finished a game w/o following some kind of tutorial first. It’s a simple game where circles and squares spawn on screen and you gotta click on the squares to score points. Circles end the game. The shapes spawn on top of each other. It absolutely sucks. But I made it!

You could argue that the one level in older Dynasty Warriors games where you play as Zhao Yun and you’re helping Liu Bei escape from Cao Cao on that one winding map with the river is an extraction shooter.

What do you do when ur game engine adds AI 🎶 What do you do when ur game engine adds AI 🎶 What do you do when ur game engine adds AI 🎶 You go to Godoooooooot! A.k.a I just saw the new beta features for Unity AI and it made me barf.

My mindset with art recently has been “oh wow this art project I’m working on is really tough and frustrating” to “wait a min I actually see good shapes? Lines? Good form?” And I couldn’t be prouder of myself.

Who needs concept artists, it's only the foundational aesthetic vision that will define your game's identity.

Wanna get good at pixel art? Make a Minecraft texture pack. There’s so much variety in those things you can practice all kinds of styles and designs on many different looking sprites. Skip like the actual blocks tho. Just do the icons.

Tech dudes with 0 understanding of lotr naming their company after the bad guy - “it’s like the all seeing eye or some shi right?”

Tried out a few game frameworks today. Not really enough to form a strong opinion but so far Monogame: forced me to restart my computer every time I wanted to build Love2D: Lua simplicity makes my amateur programmer heart happy Pygame: it’s python. I’ll try Raylib out eventually but it’s scary

I work as a BDR for a tech company and I login to LinkedIn every day to do my job and read stuff like this. Highly discouraging - I just wanna make indie games.

Don’t use AI for your voiceover in games… just ask me. I’ll do it. For free. I’ve been told I have a nice voice and I have read a book or two on acting. That’s already infinitely better than AI.

Hello, my name is Joonas Turner and I am looking for new projects to work on. I have a long experience working in all kinds of games. I am primarily looking for work as a Sound Designer and Music Composer but I am useful as a Game Designer as well. #gamedev #indiedev #gameaudio

I think one highlight in Marathon vs Arc Raiders is that the very limited prox chat interactions I’ve had have been along the lines of “wow good fight dude” instead of immediate slurs. Positive experience all around!

A gentle reminder if you've received an invoice from a Freelancer/Self employed person which is due before Christmas. Be a love, and pay it today.

Something ive noticed as ive been teaching myself how to draw is that my internal dialogue has gone from "wow I can't draw" to "I can draw that. It won't be good but I can draw it" and Im really proud of myself for it.

Can any #Linux experts out there help me find resources to make the transition? I need to be able to play game, run #Godot 3D and #Blender and also apps like Clip Studio Paint and Affinity. Maybe UE5 Thank you in advance you geniuses. Please help a windows user transition away from this awful OS
