This is just disgusting and disgraceful. Nevermind the fact that Tickell is condemning universities to failure and destroying lives, the central argument that helping people who have been failed in the past is "naive" is a betrayal of everything universities are supposed to stand for.

It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting. Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.

The story is not and has never been the declining enrollments or majors (administrators pick whichever metric best suits their ultimate end) in humanities programs, but rather their systemic, deliberate starvation of resources + culture wars attacks aimed at caricaturing / discrediting them

Agreed. Students certainly have agency, and academic integrity violations are nothing new. But we (the older generations) put this technology in their hands without meaningful guidance or guardrails in place.

Students are often portrayed as antagonists/perpetrators in AI cheating stories, and surely some of them are—I won't entirely dismiss their capacity to make choices. But students are also the main victims. The real villains are not living in dorms or going into debt to learn nothing.

We’re lowering the voting age to 16 – but still confine kids in hierarchical, compliance‑first schools. If we want citizens who can think critically, they need daily practice in democratic learning environments. Gary Champion tells how Norwich educators want to make the change.

I'm writing a thing about history education and "AI". Myself and another came up with some 'considerations' and I was wondering what people make of them in their current form. All critique appreciated, I'm trying to get to durable and defensible positions.

Absolutely not having a dig at the academics and staff at RG unis. All lovely people. Just saying that becoming good at helping kids across all different entry levels in terms of skills takes time and experience for an institution. it's an ethos that has to embed.
