Why is YouTube pushing videos on me with Douglas Murray talking rot about civil ‘conflict’ in Britain? So bizarre for decades there was effectively a civil war in N Ireland that Britain never named as such Now there is no civil war, but endless mouthpieces talking it up evidence free

Of all the bbc presenters, Webb’s politics are the easiest to read - because he puts them in newspapers and doesn’t even try to hide them in broadcasts His politics are also mind numbingly predictable

In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

First Serbia, and now an even more seismic election result for the geopolitics of now. Hard to overstate how important Brazil bucking the far right trend in Latin America is - also a huge blow to Trump www.theguardian.com/world/2026/o...

The pattern is the same in both: a captured judiciary, pliant media, and party financing that doubles as a protection racket. Orban and Vucic rotted away. Western Europe should treat this as a warning.

First Orban, now Vučić. Both fundamentally undone by rank corruption of their regimes. Which is so often the reality of the authoritarian right in power. Really worth paying heed to in Western Europe right now

Wow. Vučić has conceded Serbian election. Massive moment for the entire Balkans

This is real wallet-inspector stuff. The MoD asked *Palantir* to tell them how to buy tech. And Palantir, which has done very well out of non-competitive procurement, said: ‘yes, more of that please’.

What an odd story that I assume is the splash in Sunday Times Scottish edition Just because someone is in a redeployment pool doesn't mean they are not working. The reaction comments are from Tories, IEA and, buried, an academic saying that this isn’t that bad really

A company led by overt fascists with clear sympathies and commercial to a US regime that is an adversary should not have access to information about MoD processes, or be awarded any business that puts the MoD in the position of relying on them.

As someone who has bought quite a lot of software in the past, asking software companies to write the procurement rules is one of the dumbest things I have ever read. Software procurement is complex, removing the checks and balances and being too close to the vendor only works in their favour.

UK military procurement has been broken for a long time. Handing it over to Palantir is not the answer. That will only entrench the profiteering, but with ‘catchy’ slogans like ‘the need for speed’

Palantir was then tasked w/ leading a review of how MoD buys billions of £ in software The report it led complained of 'too many unessential veto points' and said MoD should be able to scale contracts 'without new competitions' Louis Mosley later 'welcomed how the work has been received' in MoD

The report Palantir delivered to the MoD had 35 recommendations, only one was rejected. By May, 'many' had been delivered. @suehawley.bsky.social has called for a National Audit Office review of whether the MoD is following conflict of interest rules in allowing Palantir to shape its policies

The report, 'The Need for Speed', urged the MoD to cut 'paperwork', relax scrutiny of new deals and scale existing contracts without fresh competitions. At the same time, the MoD handed Palantir a £240m follow-on contract – without competition.

This story is all about the Defence Industrial Joint Council, set up last year with Palantir on it At the council's first meeting, MoD's industrial strategy director Barney Kistruck said there would be an 'emphasis on procurement reform' Three months later, Kistruck left the MoD - for Palantir
