SW friends, OnlyFans and Fansly profile links should work now! Refresh or force-quit and reopen your app a couple times so you get the update

alex benzer@alexbenzer.com

some folks reported not being able to use certain adult-focused platforms (like onlyfans and fansly) — there was an internal miscommunication and these were accidentally added to the list of disallowed domains. this is now fixed! but you may need to refresh your app to get the update. 💙

20K people have added 60K profile links in the first 24 hours! we pushed an update with some bug fixes and will keep polishing. thanks all for the feedback.

please feed the artists. there's a green button now

This is pretty exciting news (previously you had to run all your content through a model per policy which is a giant pain). Ironically even though nearly all of our decisions are made by humans I’ve been getting complaints on our ‘bot’ decisions for years.

We're shipping CoPE-B-S1, an open-weight decision model tuned for safety use cases. It's a significant step forward for our CoPE family of models in a few ways. A thread: blog.zentropi.ai/meet-cope-b-...

For anybody old enough to remember an "iPad" is like a big iPhone Duo that doesn't fold in half unless you *really* want it to.

Also new in today’s v1.136 update: iPad support! One of our most-requested features is finally here in beta. Try out the Bluesky app on your iPad, and if you see anything off, let us know under Settings > Beta features.

v1.136 is live! Introducing: Profile links We want independent writers, artists, developers, and creators to be able to build and fund sustainable projects on Bluesky. Help your followers know how to support you by adding buttons for Patreon, Ko-fi, your newsletter or website, and more.

It is moves like this that directly position a company’s policies, hiring, and culture much closer to the administration that should be a real concern to folks.

This is wrong. Joel was NOT a MAGA fan he was an old school GOP person. And the fact that he’s being replaced by Dina McCormick, former Trump adviser, tells you all you need to know about where Facebook is betting.

Tbh while not identical, this isn’t that far off from Chinese pressure to shut down Rightscon…

1) on a pure evidence base the US has repeatedly engaged in information operations. You can even find procurement examples to manipulate youth in Iraq. Obviously with cases like stuxnet - you know there’s milder stuff.

2) Canada talks a lot of game in terms of elbows up, but folds in the face of demands from the new free speech censor from the US which is seriously disappointing.

A little scoop before Oct 7, when ICANN publishes 1,000+ applications for new top-level domains: one of them is .bsky! It's a long road (18 to 24 months), but if it goes through, handles like alice.bsky become possible.

We want to make it easier for creators to link out and attract financial support, so we're exploring a new feature that lets you add links on your profile. They show up as buttons under your bio.

Between this and the enigma machine (that I haven't read in detail), I wonder how long it will take a combo of quantum + ai to start really making a lot of current day cryptography obsolete.

In the interests of transparency, since people will create their own narratives of persecution around the auto-blocker. Here is a sample of the data that I ran an AI query just to look for patterns of abuse across the site, the following is the language that will result in an auto-block. 1/4

So there's no specific keywords, and topics per se that are off-limits. There's no identity or group that is auto-blocked. The irony is that in tolerating endless abuse is that it prevents me from having real conversations about T&S with reasonable folks, and makes me inaccessible. 3/4

Folks will say hey you are blocking X group! This is ENTIRELY opt-in. Abusive interactions result in blocks. These do not factor in your bio or your identity. I have zero clue who you are. The only thing it calculates for the auto-block is does your specific interaction deserve a block. 2/4

There’s a paradox of entitlement where folks demand better service, response time, and customisation to their tastes from smaller rather than larger providers. That only really works when the price is higher and the volume is much lower for those providers. 1/6

The point of Bluesky was to give you power to run your own moderation, manage higher levels of safety in your own communities, create your own labellers. You disagree with my decisions and that’s fine! There’s other providers out there like blacksky or northsky and they keep growing. 5/6

But it’s pointless to think - oh if I just keep yelling they’ll realize they are wrong and magically transform into a full T&S department with tons of resources to give me what I want. As long as you are locked into the mindset of gatekeepers you behave from a disenfranchised perspective. 6/6

The advantage of decentralisation and lower resource networks is that power is back in the hands of communities. There was never a world where we could replicate the staffing models of the social media incumbents. People continue to pay nothing yet expect far more. 3/6

The point isn’t to create a better Zuckerberg or opposite Elon. It’s to create a different architecture so that neither have the same power in this network. 4/6

Meanwhile T&S here was a one person department when we were 15-20 staff handling 25~27 million users or more. Yet it’s an endless barrage of demands for artisanal curation with immediate turnaround. 2/6

Automated block actions on my account, so that I can stay Unbothered. Moisturized. Happy. In my lane. Focused. Flourishing. TBH it was well overdue.

But this extends to always covering you with a curtain in a doctors private office. This confuses me since each time there’s only myself and the Doctor and they still close the privacy curtain. I just don’t know who the privacy curtain is for when there’s only 2 people in the room.

Okay so I've built a new Atlas, this time it lets you explore the conversations on Bluesky over the past 7 days graphically. It should update every ~6 hours and help you navigate the information environment that exists on here. I've learned a LOT about what people do here today... atlas.jazco.dev

shoutout to a German court for getting the facts about Bluesky wrong but the interpretation right, in a new ruling that actually has positive implications for open social networks connectedplaces.online/the-algorith...

connectedplaces.onlineThe Algorithm, Apparently ChronologicalA German court has explicitly named Mastodon and Bluesky as positive examples of social networks that could retain hosting protection. It gets Bluesky’s feeds wrong, but its reasoning about user control might be more useful than it realises.

I read the new EU Court ruling on algorithms and social platforms so you don't have to. Turns out to be the most consequential thing a European court has said about recommendation algorithms, and also it just breaks when you apply it to the atmosphere connectedplaces.online/the-algorith...
