that first-24-hours number is the kind of thing that either means you built something people actually needed, or you got lucky with timing. curious which one you think it is, or both?

I am having a problem with BlueSky jumping - it has never happened before but when I get into it, it jumps ! As if I have finger on things but I don’t ! Please fix !

is there a documentation where we can check which domains are not allowed?

as of the latest update i think it's just link shorteners? when this feature was first added onlyfans and fansly were blocked but the next update removed the blocks on those sites

That patch hasn't been rolled out yet, but will be included in the next version. The full list, in the version that added the feature, can be seen in the code here: github.com/bluesky-soci... Look at the current version of that file to see what it's changing to for the next release.

ohh. i just assumed since it was already merged in the source code and alex had said there was an update that the code was already on the website

Wow, 20K users added 60K links in 24h! 🚀 Great bug‑fix update—keep polishing, team Kalyx AI & Matteo! 😂

some folks reported not being able to use certain adult-focused platforms (like onlyfans and fansly) — there was an internal miscommunication and these were accidentally added to the list of disallowed domains. this is now fixed! but you may need to refresh your app to get the update. 💙

Can we get a retrospective or at least reason why they were "accidentally added"? I just find it difficult to understand how that happened in the first place given that plethora of those users on this platform.

This is the retro. @thepope.dev gave some details earlier but now that links are a separate thing it became a product feature that involved a larger audience including t&s. likely while iterating on how to restrict it was there and in the process human error gave us this. So not Claude, just Human

It seems pretty safe to say "having a master list with those websites" at all has something to do with the other related quirk they announced. And I guess probably they messed up some if/else.

one note about adult sites in profile links: like other links to adult content, they will be labeled and hidden from logged-out visitors, minors, and people who have opted-out of seeing adult content.

These domain were explicitly designated as "sites that can't be added as profile links" under BLOCKED_DOMAINS, not "sites that are hidden to unlogged/underage users". This was not an accident or an error: someone wrote (or had the AI write) code that way, and someone greenlit the result.

One of the many reasons AI is a fascist technology- accountability washing. Who's at fault for discriminating against the sex workers? Was it really a whoopsy doopsy as dev boy up there implies? Did Meta's automation "accidentally" suspended No Kings account? Can't ever tell.

This really needs an answer. This is at least the second time Bluesky has implemented things that appear to target adult creators. We have filters for a bizarre number of types of nudity but none solely for violence or disturbing content. This sure feels like they’d like us gone.

Hopefully just something to do with the feature not being finished and making sure it doesn't show up for people that specifically opted out of adult content or for users that are verified as minors. That being said, with their previous track record I'm not going to automatically give them grace.

👁️ Happy for the reversal but I am afraid that past lapses leave it hard to immediately believe the BlueSky team when you say it's a miscommunication.

taking you at your word: what links *are* disallowed? I ran through some well-known hate websites and the like and nothing else seemed to be barred so I'm really confused as to what the purpose of the feature even was if it wasnt specifically aimed at sites like OF and fansly.

I *think* the part where it was also blocking link shorteners/redirects might have been intentional? To protect from phishing?

As happy as I am about this being fixed, what has happened that this "internal miscommunication" has happened as it did? The original code was explicit about what domains, sites to block, and we genuinely feared the worst.

Is “internal miscommunication” code for “Aaron and/or one of his cronies threw another temper tantrum trying to drive away the original user base of Bluesky and maybe didn’t tell anyone else”

nah. we're just a small team that's trying to do a lot. respectfully, people are reading way too far into this. we're humans, we make mistakes sometimes, and we just try to correct them quickly.

Hey! I saw that you can add links to profiles in labelers accounts just in the same way as regular accounts but they don't show up! Idk if I should maybe open a Github issue/discussion to fix that or it's intended. Could be useful to link a website with extended details about the labels or something

Minors shouldn’t be on your website to be frank. Social media has proven time and time again to be both a place minors shouldn’t be welcomed or allowed. You need to understand that the onus is on the person clicking the link. Not the creator putting it online.

I'm not sure that's true. I've seen a lot of people who work with vulnerable kids saying that social media provides one of the few spaces where they can find support, particularly in hostile family situations.

does opting out of seeing adult content include stuff like having the posts show on your feed but behind a content warning or will that also hide the links? i.e. on my other account i have adult content behind CW things but i would prefer to see the profile links, even if they're to adult sites

It could be an idea for profile links to display them when hidden under a "more links" dialog if interstitials for all links isn't on the cards.

Has the precise nature of that "internal miscommunication" been publicly articulated anywhere? Or evidence that the inclusion of adult-oriented platforms in `BLOCKED_DOMAINS` was "accidental", especially in light of the public code repository suggesting it was conscious & explicit?

i will say it is weird that they seemed to be lumped alongside url shorteners, but still they even have a "porn" label :) "the only thing hiding an adult-platform link is the porn label that filterModeratedLinkViews checks (state.ts:48-51)."

are there plans to allow people to self label the links at the minute? since the lexicon field exists but isnt used, and it would mean users dont get emails about violating ts or whatever
