The election in Scotland was a grim day for Scottish Labour but we must listen to the country and rise to the challenges. On a personal note delighted to be writing for @thefabians.bsky.social for the first time as an MSP.
In an era of fragmented politics and a fractured electorate, Scottish Labour must reconnect with voters’ values to rebuild trust, writes @kathsangster.bsky.social

“People didn’t believe that we could fix it”
@kathsangster.bsky.social tries to summarise where things went wrong for Labour at the Scottish Parliament Election, ultimately suggesting that the focus wasn’t on Scotland and that the party’s record at Westminster paid a huge part.
Great to be in the audience of the 2025 BBC Reith Lectures delivered by author Rutger Bregman.
Rutger thinks we need a new “true radicalism” to follow in the footsteps of the Fabians of the 19th century.
My question? how could this new Fabianism be communicated in the age of news by TikTok etc

Yesterday was about saving jobs. It was also a moment that commanded the nation's attention. Some thoughts from me on the importance of such moments of drama in modern political communication. blairmail.substack.com/p/attention-...
What are the public's priorities for additional funding?
There is strong consensus for more health spending - but differences arise when it comes to other services.

So delighted to be selected for Edinburgh Eastern, Musselburgh and Tranent. I cannot wait to get to work with the excellent Labour team of MPs, MSPs, Councillors and of course our dedicated activists. Thanks to everyone who supported me.
I'm so proud to be supported by four incredible trade unions: Community, GMB, Unison, and Usdaw. All do amazing work fighting for their members, and I can't wait to stand alongside them should I be lucky enough to be selected tomorrow.
Honoured to be nominated by the Co-operative Party. The party plays such an important role in our movement, and I can't wait to campaign alongside fellow co-operators to win for Labour in 2026.
Proud to be endorsed by Ruth Elliott. As a former Scottish Greens activist, Ruth knows how important the climate emergency is to voters across Edinburgh. This is one of my top issues, and I'm honoured that Ruth has put her trust in me to champion our environment in the Scottish Parliament.
So proud to be endorsed by Margaret Curran. She has been a fantastic mentor and friend to me over the years. She was an exceptional MP,MSP,and Minister, and has done incredible work mentoring female politicians in other countries. I can't wait to be campaigning with her again in Musselburgh soon!
Whilst there are a number of great programmes to encourage women into politics there is very little support for women further along in their political journey. Women dropping out just as big a problem as women not coming forward at all.
"Holyrood is becoming a hostile environment for women.”
Why are so many SNP women stepping down from the Scottish Parliament in 2026?

Thank you to Daniel Coleman for his kind endorsement. Daniel was a brilliant campaign coordinator in Edinburgh Northern and Leith CLP. I look forward to working with him on the campaign to win back Edinburgh from the SNP in 2026.
Great turnout for our Edinburgh-wide campaign day!
Fantastic to be out in Hillside, Edinburgh - fond memories of my first flat there.
Out with the amazing local Labour team Tracy, Foysol and James, and activists speaking to voters about the change a Scottish Labour government can bring.
Proud to be endorsed by Jonny Alvarez-Buylla, an outstanding chair of Edinburgh Labour Students. Students were key to our win in Edinburgh East and Musselburgh last year, and I look forward to working with Jonny on the issues facing students in our city.
Thank you to Edinburgh Labour Students for inviting me along to talk about my political journey and my roles working in a think tank and for politicians. Really enjoyed meeting everyone and feel confident they will all make a fantastic contribution in 2026 and beyond!
Delighted to receive an endorsement from Anne McCluskey. Anne is not only a tireless campaigner but a selfless champion of other women, encouraging and mentoring them.
I'm grateful for her support and her encouragement of me over the years.
Grateful for the support of Christine Megson MBE, a champion for women in politics and the founder of the Fabian Women’s Network Mentoring Programme. Her work has helped so many women find their political voice, and I’m honoured to have her endorsement.
Delighted to have the backing of Ferhan Ashiq, an amazing local businessman in East Lothian who knows the challenges our high streets and small businesses face across the area.
Very busy afternoon talking to members in Tranent - thanks to everyone who took the time to chat. We finished in time for the Rugby starting 🏴 🏉 and caught a glorious East Lothian sunset on the way home
Delighted to have the support of Irshad Ahmed. Irshad is a brilliant advocate for Edinburgh’s ethnic minority communities, and I’m honoured that he’s put his trust in me to represent our city in 2026.
Proud to have the support of Peter Lally, Scottish Labour’s Under-18s Officer and a dedicated local activist. His passion for engaging young people in politics is inspiring, and I’m delighted to have him on board as we fight to win in 2026.
Honoured to receive an endorsement from Sheila Gilmore. As the former MP for Edinburgh East and a tireless campaigner ever since, Sheila was an outstanding representative for this area.
I'm grateful for her support and her confidence in me to win this seat back for Labour in 2026.
The selection for the Scottish Labour candidates in Edinburgh East, Musselburgh and Tranent/Edinburgh North Eastern and Leith is now underway.
Delighted to have received supporting nominations from the following Unions and excited for the campaign ahead!
Lots of good conversations out in Portobello this afternoon chatting to local people about their issues - everything from influence of social media on our young people, upkeep of the roads and the worrying situation in the US. Time for a new direction with @scottishlabour.bsky.social
Heading back after a fantastic #ScotLab25 with @scottishfabians.bsky.social
Lots of ideas and energy ahead of the crucial Holyrood elections next year 🙌
I have just applied for the biggest job of my life- to be a Scottish Labour Party candidate in 2026 for the place I love! ❤️
Applications for the twinned seats of Edinburgh East, Musselburgh and Tranent/Edinburgh North Eastern & Leith have opened.
Good luck to all the other applicants too 🌹
