By way of introduction, I’m the resident Afrofuturist at the Kheprw Institute, the librarian of the recently restored historic Paul Laurence Dunbar Library, and I’m a Black male horror, science fiction and fantasy author.

Writing Excuses@writingexcuses.bsky.social

Writing Excuses is partnering with Maurice Broaddus and the Ray Bradbury Center to focus on the theme of learning to love your work. It's all about learning who you are, what stories you want to tell, and how to sustain both yourself and the work out in the world. www.tickettailor.com...

Inspired by Ray Bradbury, After the Fire (working title) honors the legacy of one of America’s most celebrated speculative fiction writers by inviting a new generation of authors to engage with the spirit and social urgency of Bradbury’s work.

When I walk through my front door from the Magic the Gathering draft tournament, my son is already standing next to my wife. R: You want to tell mom why I'm referencing DJ Khaled right now? Me: Because ... all you do is win? R: ALL I DO IS WIN! *my wife breaks out as his back up chorus*

[Did I do this to myself by teaching him how to play Magic: the Gathering? Yes. Did my pod throw him a birthday party when he turned 13 where they made a cake with him as his then favorite card AND gave him a Black Lotus just to see what kind of deck he'd build with it? Also yes.]

I was just told "You're so prolific." This is a real time picture of projects on my desk. Not one of them is what I'm supposed to be working on. "Prolific" is a measurement of my procrastination!

This Spring is going to be stacked...

Another day we get to share fave lines from a Forged in FIYAH author...! Check out @mauricebroaddus.bsky.social and Crown Hill Chronic(les) 🔥🔥🔥

DaVaun Sanders@davaun.bsky.social

Today the Forged in FIYAH anthology fam spotlights "Crown Hill Chronic(les)" original fiction from the legend himself, @mauricebroaddus.bsky.social! A pillar in the Black SFF community, beloved mentor, and spiller of tea who championed FIYAH from year one. 🔥🔥🔥

First off, Mikki is an absolute menace. “Indianapolis may love you, but I'm a Chicagoan. I’m obligated to dunk on you and your city.” Something about keeping me humble. Second off, these pics depict our relationship over the years: 2018 (Mo*Con) 2024 (GenCon), and Print Row Litfest (Saturday).

Everyone should be so blessed as to have a Mikki in their life. Apparently, her giving me headlocks is good for my career (she claims)? Btw, the audience was FAR TOO HYPED FOR THIS MOMENT. It’s always great to spend time with friends. Even Mikki, I guess. (LOL)

I have a book coming out on Tuesday! My publisher gave me an option of either a launch day event or one for the weekend. And I said let's do the weekend cuz a lot of my community works so it will be easier for them to come out for a signing on Saturday. But that's not the real reason

I’m pleased to announce that I’ve been short-listed for the Indiana Authors Award in the Genre category. This makes me a four time nominee! (I won twice: once for Pimp My Airship in the Genre category and the other for Unfadeable in the Middle Grade category.)
