After an illegal war & Trump’s brazen self-enrichment, more Americans now understand why re-electing the most corrupt President in history has led to abuses of entrusted power without parallel in our history. But the worst is yet to come, as we learn more. Example: www.reuters.com/business/fin...

The extent to which Trump regime officials behaved badly in 2025 when they imagined permanent majorities & pardons for corruption is still not widely appreciated by all Americans. House impeachment investigations of Cabinet officials will both inform people who tuned out & inevitably lead to Trump.

JUST POSTED: Today at The NYT we are publishing a major investigation into how President Trump used his executive powers to expose millions of Americans to greater cancer risks. A six month-long investigation built on more than 10,000 pages of FOIA records. Read it www.nytimes.com/2026/10/24/c...

nytimes.comHow Trump Gave the Worst Polluters a Free Pass (Gift Article)The president temporarily waived clean-air rules for industrial facilities that spew cancer-causing gases. Then his appointees worked to gut the regulations altogether.

The event organizer estimated to the National Park Service that 20,000 people would show up at the free benefit Turnstile just put on. I find that plausible. Perfect fall day for an outdoor music event.

America 250 is the bipartisan nonprofit organization & Commission established by Congress in 2016. Freedom 250 is the the public-private task force established by the Trump administration. No one is buying “Freedom 250” merch.

The Capitol Police expanded a security annex further onto the lawns of the parklands Olmstead designed around the cathedral of American democracy. I accept the need for cameras after the insurrection in 2021, & appreciate the relative beauty of these, but mourn the loss of unsurveilled civic spaces.

Trump “testimony about his conduct & state of mind on January 6 poses the risk of undermining the arguably broadest work of his presidency: to scrub the pages of history to excise his shameful scheme to foment a violent insurrection to steal the election.”— @harrylitman.bsky.social Petard, hoisted

harrylitman.substack.comTrump Hoist By His Own PetardThis time, Trump’s $10 billion defamation suit is putting front and center the last thing that he wants.

“For years Trump has waged an Orwellian campaign to rewrite January 6—to pretend it never happened, or that it was a gathering of loving patriots. Now his own complaint has put the day front and center, on precisely the point he wants not only to rebut but to avoid discussing altogether.

“It doesn’t get much richer than this. Every deposition, every document, every witness under oath now adds to the record Trump has spent years trying to erase. He sued to rewrite history. History is answering under oath.”

It’s frustrating to find great writers persisting in using “real life” & “real world” in contrast to what happens online, like @katzish.bsky.social did today. We can find happiness online, connecting to humans & ideas globally we never could otherwise, from grandparents in a pandemic to remote work.

Super cool. @alexbenzer.com & team. I bet this will help a lot of independent authors & creatives remove friction from getting support from our communities & networks. I just added a link to Civic Texts, since I'm finally going to start writing again after losing another muse. Easy peasey.

Silence only aids Trump & his partisans, who want the American people to believe their unprecedented abuses of entrusted power for political gain, self-enrichment, & retribution are the same as those of previous administrations and the Democrats are just as bad or worse.

Worse still, it will further erode public trust in all elected officials, most of whom continue to serve with honor and integrity every day across our union. Corruption must not become acceptable in any party or branch of government.

I didn’t see many morning newsletters pick it up nor public outcry about the series, which isn’t done. It’s possible that’s because Clyburn is a powerbroker not just in South Carolina but the Democratic Party writ large. It’s certainly a BFD if this is as reported.

Corruption isn’t just a Republican problem. Remember “Senator Goldbars?” And the conspicuous silence of President Biden & @kamalaharris.com about the corruption of their former colleague, even after his conviction? Trump’s corruption should have been hammered home every day. That admin “moved on.”

“I think the mistake that people in my party have made is that they confuse the separation of church & state with a separation of faith & politics. We want people to bring their faiths, their moralities, their ethics, their worldview, their philosophies to our politics.”— @jamestalarico.bsky.social

Y’all, I hate to rain on the dead bot parade, but the Yandex data center destruction doesn’t seem to have significantly impacted social media bots. I made temporal graphs of X posts about AfD around the time of the attack and there’s no sign of a sudden dip or residual impact on that conversation.

Judge Reyes demonstrates how news media can respond to bogus claims of bias by partisans “working the ref”: cite the public record to show their journalism was fair, accurate, & honest in follow-up pieces. If they made errors, correct. Seek truth & report, without fear or favor, & defend the truth.
