We're celebrating the 58 years of the Special Olympics! The very first games were held on July 20, 1968 in Chicago, Illinois. Over 1,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities from 26 states and Canada came together to publicly demonstrate the importance of sports in the disability community!

This Disability Pride Month and anniversary, we celebrate the access adaptive sports have provided to the community. People with disabilities belong in all spaces, including sports! Sports activities promote teamwork, community, and physical and mental wellness. Most of all, they’re fun!

DRC joined the Sacramento Pride March and Parade to celebrate the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, and two-spirit communities and culture. We had an incredible time sharing DRC's advocacy work, connecting folks with resources, and joining in pride festivities!

Thank you all who joined us and cheered along the parade route! And a special thank you to Saint Mary's Mariachi Club for their wonderful Spanish singing along our parade route! Happy pride from all of us at Disability Rights California! #DisabilityRightsCA #SacramentoPride #Parade #LGBTQIA #June

AB 1225 (Bennett) is a bipartisan bill authored by Asm. Steve Bennett that will help make California’s state parks more accessible so everyone can enjoy them. #DisabilityRightsCA #AB1225 #SteveBennett #OutdoorAccessibility #StateParks #AccessbilityCommittee #Newsom #CaliforniaLegislation

The bill establishes an Accessibility Advisory Committee within the Department of Parks and Rec to provide expert guidance on improving access in state parks. This committee will help ensure that individuals with disabilities have a voice in shaping accessibility policies and park improvements.
