You mean like Christine Drazan who this year actually ranted and voted AGAINST a bill codifying and upholding Oregon’s child labor laws? Those people? Ahem.

Ms Ariel Knox@msarielknox.bsky.social

The people screaming the loudest about protecting children are often the same people fighting every law that actually protects children.

Remembering the time Drazan started a nonprofit, held a roundtable about housing in my region without inviting me or anyone from my city's govt, agreed to have one call with me about affordable housing afterwards, and then I never heard from her again. Performance doesn't gain us progress.

Tina Kotek@tinakotek.bsky.social

Christine Drazan opposed nearly every major housing bill during the 2025 legislative session. She also missed more than one-third of her votes in this year’s session. Leadership means showing up when it matters, and I always will.

For the last two sessions I have fought and passed a bill with a price tag of $1.5-$4 million (scaled) that would have changed this outcome, had it been funded. I have railed about this on the house floor, to deaf ears. These folks did not have to lose their service.

The board voted unanimously Friday to end its ambulance service because of costs. The change is expected to increase ambulance response times for residents in eastern Klamath County and pull resources from elsewhere in the county.

As Medicaid reimbursement continues to be slashed & it gets harder to fill these jobs, this will snowball. Klamath following Fossil/ Condon, & more rural areas will follow. EMS is the frontline of the healthcare crisis & as ppl are re-determined out of care, this is where you’ll see impacts first.

The world is kind of nuts but today I got to watch my 8lb 7oz tiny baby Z who I carried like a football graduate from college… and now he’s a giant huge-hearted human off to change the world and I couldn’t be prouder. (Also very amused that he’s so tall you have to click for full picture).

I am completely undone by this. Not only because this evokes Addison in every way, but because this trailer is just unbelievably gorgeous, absolute genius. I can’t wait for the movie. And Addison… you should have been here to see this. It’s wild how our hearts can hurt and heal all at the same time.

Happy Mother’s Day! In light of war, a return to the Jim Crow South, and those Epstein-file a$$holes still running free, your mom does not want flowers or brunch this year. She would like a reconciliation, a revolution of dignity and justice, and an end to war, for starters. Please and thank you.

If you are running as a pro-union candidate, then use union printing and union shops. Seeing quite a bit of “I’m pro worker and pro union” lit out there without a union bug. (And we have great union shops in town if ppl need reccs, and union partners who print).

Again this should inspire wall-to-wall media coverage for months. The crowning achievement of the Civil Rights Movement is dead. Black people just lost all of their remaining political power in the South. This is a monumental moment in American history that simply isn't being treated as such.

Ari Berman@ariberman.bsky.social

Breaking: Tennessee Republicans pass new 9-0 gerrymander after SCOTUS destruction of Voting Rights Act eliminating state’s only majority-Black district & last Democratic seat. Splits Memphis, which is 63% Black, into 3 districts to disenfranchise Black voters. Quite literally a return to Jim Crow

If you watch one thing on the socials today, let it be this:

Author Myron J. Clifton@deardean22.bsky.social

The most important issue in the nation is the federal government’s attack on Black women in power. Today the FBI raided Virginia Sen president pro-tem Louise Lucas, continuing the political genocide against Black political power. All large platforms dems should be covering this.

I was so proud to support the expansion and sustainment of this rollout here in OR. I never imagined then it would be so personal. Yesterday was Addison’s birthday. I wish she had dialed those three numbers. 988 saves lives.

John Moe@johnmoe.bsky.social

Here's a goddamn win and thank you to many people for bringing it to my attention: 988 works. We have more people still with us because of it. I'm glad they're here and I'm glad you're here. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/22/s...

Every word of this. @propublica.org FTW, again.

More than half of the 1,689 local emergency management agencies that responded to a survey last year have either one or no permanent full-time employees. A “notable percentage” of local emergency managers who responded are volunteers.

Cracking up and maybe more than a little depressed by colleagues asking where we are taking sine die vacation after such an intense short session. Me (after muttering 35 day short sessions are dumb):

We burn people out in the legislature. And being a decent legislator is about listening, being in community, taking deep policy dives. It’s full-time work and if someone tells you it isn’t, they are doing it wrong. I get paying politicians is like the least popular thing ever.

But the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result, right? We figured this out in PDX. People get pissed every year I say this (and I will keep saying it after I am gone), but we have to call it out. Issue is not going away. But the good people are.

But sad puppy navel gazing aside, when are we going to take legislative pay seriously? Ever? You want working class people in positions of power, but add it to your FT jobs, screw your family, and forget any sense of balance. Oh, and now campaign (and fundraise), too. And show up, everywhere.

I know it’s a robust past-time to post about the feckless legislature, but we have done some truly great things to push back against federal overreach this session with unpredictable headwinds. I’m proud of the work we are doing.

A bill expanding Oregon’s shield laws that protect doctors, nurses, midwives, and others who provide abortions and gender-affirming care to out of state patients has passed both chambers in the Oregon Legislature.

Huge props to Rep Farrah Chaichi on this one- it was an impossibly hard needle to thread and pass it through both chambers and she got it done.

Oregon state Democratic lawmakers approved a measure on Thursday that would prevent federal immigration officers from wearing masks. The measure is a response to the Trump administration’s nationwide deportation efforts.

I got to spend a few hours outside of politics today and see Neko Case at the Reser in Beaverton. What a world-class place to hear music; it’s like being in a studio and it’s absolutely sublime (as is Neko). Also I have no tears left so don’t even try me, Salem.

It was my honor to host @wyden.senate.gov at our very own Ida B Wells HS! And although he may be on a different platform, I want to again invite the guy angry about the transportation tax who was escorted out to my own town hall on March 18th, 6pm, at Neighborhood House.

Held at Ida B. Wells High School, this marked Wyden’s 1,150th statewide open-to-all town hall. https://www.koin.com/news/portland/senator-ron-wyden-addresses-iran-strikes-epstein-vote-by-mail-at-sw-portland-town-hall/?cid=bluesky_

I made it home in time from Salem last night to go see “Wuthering Heights” with Matt. We had to stifle giggles, frankly. Main characters still assholes, and I knew the movie was going to be ridiculous from the opening scene. Has Salem made me that cynical? Clearly. (OG novel still is much darker).

And speaking of things that disappoint me, in the year 2026 with everything we know about the exploitative and environmental impacts of AI/ Data Centers that the convo in Salem is about how to encourage more. I am not the one.

I love jobs. I love technology! And I know we can do better: w/ community benefit agreements that ensure growth centers & brings prosperity to actual residents, labor agreements that educate, grow, & sustain local workforce, & environmental guardrails that consider the 7th generation. Nothing less.

Between DOL/ LCD news & future councilors w/ guns! & inadvertently becoming the face of stifling freedom of press, OR news is wild today. Time to log off. But 1st: I’m so proud we passed the federal recourse bill, 90-day hold on private equity home scoops, nat’l guard bill off floor, among others.

Many of these are flying below the radar with the churn of the news cycle and they are very tangible and prospective efforts by House D’s fighting fed over-reach, helping families get into homes, and keeping our communities safer. More to come. For a short session, we are cooking.

It’s short session, why am I not blue skeeting? It’s not for lack of want! My days start early, and I love that the rotunda is back open. There’s a gorgeous suspense to it first thing in the morning, before the echos of chatter and laughter and occasional singing. I love the early morning light.

Buckle up because next week we get into the shield law on the floor (❤️), the very last day of first chamber deadline work session, and more urgent work around immigration and meeting the moment. (SO many moments that need to be met). All in 35 days, which, imo, is stupid. 🙃

Final thought for the night while my brain starts to unwind— sessions could & should be more balanced. What about two 3-month sessions instead? 35 days is ridiculous, and we are long past the era where it’s just the clean-up lap. The world has changed; we should reflect those changes. Night all!

And then… it’s off to the races. Non stop. Will it let up? Probably not before March 8th. Did I fake getting a phone call in committee today because my bladder was going to burst & I’d had no, I mean zero, break? Yes, yes I did. Do I love every minute of it, even when it breaks my heart? Also yes.

And although this is probably not healthy, I LOVE being the last out. The absolute stillness & hush of the rotunda at night. (I wish they’d let it go dark but I get it). It’s just… reverent. Being a floor manager (aka whip) easily adds an extra 2 hrs to my day. But it also gives me these moments.

This is the balm I needed tonight.
