Hi new followers, guess it's time for a new intro post. I’m David, been working as indiedev ~15 years, made a few games, I like coding my own frameworks in SDL/C++. More "recently" I've been doing contract work using Unity/GM2 etc for consoles, so been vverry slowly working on my own new game.

not sure if this info is useful for anyone, but if you want to look into which controllers to make sure your game supports on Steam (and the icon glyphs too maybe). for my own game, 58% of play sessions are using a controller, majority with an Xbox controller followed by Steam Deck.

if you are grabbing an iPhone Duo, I updated Quest of Dungeons last night to take advantage of bigger screen, it adapts to folded/unfolded mode. also added a virtual DPAD and bunch of other things. v4.0.1. let me know if bugs as I don't have the device. have fun. itunes.apple.com/app/id698726...

2 weeks left for Ocarina Time remake!! I never finished OG back in the day, got stuck in water temple I think, excited to finish it this time around.

The Matrix is full of great cinematography, but this has to be my favorite still of the movie, I can’t explain why, but there’s something about the whole setup.

Sometimes I forget QoD is over a decade now, and some people who played it as kids are now all grown up, it really does warm the heart when people reach out to say they had a good time with it.

Valve is out there making software to run Windows games on Linux with 0 changes from devs, translating completely different apis on the fly with matching, or above performance. I would not bet on a performance contest even as a joke.

took some time to setup Godot C++ module system to get it to run my own C++ code instead of only gdScript, and I'm finding myself "more at home" now, the convenience of a powerful editor, and I can still use GDscript on nodes if I want to. might be my optimal balance here.

The game I'm making: Even though I've specialized in algorithmic super adaptive music for quite a bit, I've never done something this complex before The only way I can reasonably exceed how the music adapts to gameplay, I need to be a dedicated musician on a project, and not do the other stuff too

store.steampowered.comRhythm Doggo on SteamYou wanted to play a video game and just got transformed into a dog! Rhythm Doggo is a classic platform adventure where you play as a dog and make music on the way. Can you go back to your human form?

I've had a MX ERGO trackball mouse for 6 and half years now, battery still holds for weeks with heavy daily usage, very comfortable, just requires a bit more maintenance then regular ones due to trackball dust accumulation. one of the best mouse I ever got.

Firefox updated to the rounded tabs, I don't dislike it visually, but it's making my mouse muscle memory aiming precision go wonky, not a big fan, although I'm sure I'll adapt.

Been testing iPhone Duo simulator and added response to fold/unfold/rotation events for various layouts. Instead of scaling the game, I increased the view when unfolded which works out like an iPad version. I like it. Will have to be one of those "I only tested on the simulator though" updates.

Ran into a “multiply blend state runs on x11 but not on Wayland” Linux situation but I’m now convinced my base assumption on the alpha channel was wrong and before x11/windows/other platforms were just ignoring it. Or maybe it’s too late/early in the day ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As a millennial a lot of slang already flies over my head, but it seems everyone is the world is either cooking or cooked. Where’s all the ppl who are just … chilling?

Interview I gave for a Polish website about QoD Switch 2 launch, it's been so long that my most recent "not that bad" photo was from the Wii U

I don’t think the majority of people in the world understand how damaging this is, and I’m not simply talking about sites not getting the direct traffic, effectively all that reaches them is already filtered, parsed and charged to them by a third party

Bring back RSS www.axios.com/newsletters/...

This is also the reason I never got rid of my own blog, including the RSS feed and following other devs that way. Social networks come and go, and while a blog is never as popular as having a bunch of followers in any given site, at least you’re not 100% dependent on that.

Several studio merges here if I get this right. Activision developing Halo on a new separate team, Bethesda absorbing (?) Obsidian, Playground and Turn 10 into one studio.

Sounds silly and hard to describe these days, but when I started playing games decades ago a simple background moving when you reach edges on a point n click adventure was a great feeling, after the 1 screen scenarios.

Games are still amazing these days, but I feel many of the higher productions ones are starting to have their “100 camera cuts to show an action scene” movies moment. Let it breathe. That’s what I think also helped the cozy-relaxed genre flourish.

I imagine between release of DX1 and DirectX 9 these were breakneck speed to pack in features every year, but with DX9 release it had a big impact in gamedev and became a standard. There are still hundreds of games today running on DX9 on latest Window versions.

Because of that “you can see everything” trailer that was circulating a few days ago, I was curious about who the reporter was, discovered Nathan For You tv show and this is brilliant, already on 3rd season. Top tier comedy.

We want to tell this story bit, but it's been a while since the player pressed anything... QUICK TIME EVENT!! now, where were we...? ah yes, about the giant squid!

I had this idea the other day. Someone creates a steam game that just plays the Rick Astley rickrolling video, we funnel up all fake key requests to that “game”. Kinda tempted to see how many would end up in gray markets.

Dave Gilbert@wadjeteyegames.com

Ah. The zillion random "send 10 steam keys and our totally real team will review your game" requests in my inbox. Must be the week before launch.
