I wonder if all sapient species in the universe are as bloodthirsty as humans. Like, it seems to me that, as a species, we really, really, really like to kill each other. Wouldn't it be nice if they weren't like us?

EA shuts down Bioware... the studio which created four of the largest and most popular video game franchises ever. EA have always been a bunch of shitcunts but this is a level of shit-cuntery that is also self-destructive so, at least there's that.

Reactionary: the corflute of my enemy must be torn down! Liberal: my enemy has the right to corflutes no matter their bigotry. Woke: this corflute, shat out by "AI", has such shitty design that it actively hurts my enemy. lol.

I've been convinced since forever that capitalism is a system built by sociopaths which rewards sociopathy and the ruling elite reflect that in everything they do.

Last weekend a First Nations woman in custody in Queensland was shackled to a hospital bed as she gave birth prematurely by caesarean. Medical staff tried and failed to have the chains removed. The brutality is cruel and unnecessary.

I will never understand how "You must accept the terms to use this service," is a thing. Like... this is a service I need that is provided so I don't die. Why bother asking whether or not I accept the terms when I don't have a fucking choice?

Midnight Suns is so weird. I swear they cut corners on the writing. It's all so... first draft? And wow did they skip the editing stage. So. Much. Unnecessary. Dialogue. Ugh.

My grocery bills have gone up by about 50% in the last six to twelve months, at least. I used to spend about $70 a week now I'm regularly cracking $100. And that's with me having also streamlined my diet and shopping to lower the overall cost. Fuck every neo-liberal fuck who ever existed.

The Guardian Black Box series is so bad. It's constantly both-sidesing by showing the bad stuff about so-called "AI" first and then the good stuff so you end with the thought, "Hmm, I don't like some things about it but on balance..."

I genuinely want to know why it is that there are so many video games of the last few years which use sudden flashes of full screen whiteness for transitions, like dreams, portals, etc. In an age where amers have high nit LED screens and tend to play in dark rooms... why, just fucking... why?

Is it just me or is almost every protagonist and antagonist in a series these days neurodivergent coded? Or maybe even always have been? Anyway, watching VisionQuest.

Late to Midnight Suns discourse and also don't go to gaming forums to know what the discourse on it even is but wow do the makers of this game not 'get' the Deadpool character.

I'm finding more and more that there are a lot of people who speak on so-called "AI" in an authoritative capacity who should most definitely not be speaking about so-called "AI" in an authoritative capacity. Or at all, really. What's worse is that a lot of these people are leftist leaders...

This is also why I put no faith in the whole 'bubble' rhetoric around "AI". The ruling elites of the world want it and they're going to do anything to make sure it happens. There's a reason why it's being forced on everyone, everywhere, and it ain't just because of a handful of billionaires.

One of the weird things about having watched ten-metric fuckloads of US-made TV/movies is that you can start to recognise reused locations and sets. I wonder if there's a tour for these? Like, they'd be pretty scattered but probably mostly in LA and Toronto I'm guessing. Is there a book about them?

If you've ever wanted to think more about language, my podcast @lingthusiasm.com with @gretchenmcculloch.com has almost 10 years of monthly episodes, all originally researched and made by our little team. We make fun episodes about 40 minutes on a wide variety of topics, no linguistics necessary!

Hey. The fragmentation of the social media landscape has been hard on indie #scicomm 🧪 projects So if you'd like to follow a podcast that's enthusiastic about #linguistics, could you check out @lingthusiasm.com? And if you think your followers might like to, could you give this a repost?

This shows just how extreme the US is. Livestreaming an execution by firing squad is the behaviour of a bloodthirsty dictator. Yet the Albanese Government is tying us closer and closer to the Trump regime.

I think I'm done with The Nation podcasts. Tech Won't Save Us is... okay, but all the others tend to platform liberal and neo-con talking points dressed up in progressive Marxist frames with zero criticality of their own positionality. And some of their 'experts' are very clearly not...

In all genuine seriousness... wtf are we doing? How is militarising our police force like in the US helping anyone or making anyone safer? Millions of dollars for this bullshit while hospitals and schools are gutted all for what? So Minns the Authoritarian can jerk off to the anthem? FFS. #Auspol

I know Tony and Wendy well. They're good friends and long-time Greens, and they've spent decades fighting to protect the Hunter Valley they love. Today they took on the fossil fuel giants and got an important win.

It's hard to be reasonable and patient with people who will literally argue that the machine-god is possible without even realising that's what they're rationalising and who will attempt to call you ethically challenged for questioning why they think non-biological cognition is possible. I just...

I'm not sure about the economics but gut reaction makes me think this would also be amazing for farmers who are constantly squeezed by Colesworth domination. These supermarkets would essentially act as a regulatory body that would set fair pricing up and down the supply chain.

Something I'm not understanding about the criticism of Shoebridge saying The Greens won't support supplying Ukraine with military equipment. People realise that doing this would make Australia an arms supplier within the military industrial complex, right?

I think something might've changed with my health. I've always had issues with exhaustion but these last few weeks have been brutal. I used to have flare ups where I'd need at least three naps a day to get through but they were rare. Now it's every day plus going to sleep earlier. So tired.
