Headed into downtown New Bedford to check out the newly-unveiled statue of Herman Melville by sculptor Steff Rocknak today, since I wasn't able to sneak out of work for the unveiling itself. #photography #newbedford #massachusetts #publicart

Half dessert, half exercise in using up some pantry items. Banana bread with carob powder, toasted walnuts, and chopped dates. Also, gluten-free, since that's a thing I need to think about for family members now. #photography #cooking #food #foodphotography

A piece of "flong", essentially a papier-mâché mold used to cast a metal printing plate for a comic for a newspaper. This one is for the May 22, '77 Sunday "Peanuts" strip, and would have been used to print the black line art for the strip (there would have been others to print the colors.) #flong

A pair of Sandhill Cranes (an adult and a colt in the background) stalking the northern fields at Burrage Pond, looking very dinosaur-y. #photography #birds #wildlife #massachusetts

Pressed play on "Master and Commander" tonight to be greeted with a "Contains tobacco depictions" warning. Disney, I grew up in the 1970s, when the entire world smelled of smoke. I can handle it.

A brief moment from last night's fantastic show by They Might Be Giants at the House of Blues in Boston. And they have another one tonight. Don't know how they do it. They're older than I am and my dogs were tired this morning. #concert #photography #boston #houseofblues

Outstanding show by The Mountain Goats at the House of Blues in Boston tonight. I've lost count of how many times I've listened to "This Year" over the course of the last bunch of years.

Headed out to Destruction Brook today looking for wildflowers; still a bit early, I guess. But some of the ferns are starting to unfurl. Plus, bonus critter hiding in plain sight. #photography #plants #dartmouth #massachusetts

Stopped out at Mass Audubon Stony Brook on the way home tonight for my daily walk instead of hitting the rail trail near my office. Haven't gone through all the photos, but I knew this one would finish up nicely as soon as I shot it. #photography #birds #wildlife #massachusetts

Well, this was the final number when I turned it in as the trade-in for a 2026 Accord Hybrid today. 296,132 miles over the last 12 years, which I would have hit a lot faster without 2 years of work-from-home in there. New one started at 8 miles.

Not counting insurance and excise taxes, but including the original purchase price, all the fuel and maintenance, and the value at trade-in, worked out to about 21.6 cents per mile. Not too shabby.

Made a caramel-apple layer cake for my father-in-law's 90th today. Caramel application was a bit messy for me, and I only had the phone to grab a shot of the interior when it came time to serve it, but this was well-received. Very tasty. #photography #cooking #food #foodphotography

This is the recipe from Lewis & Poliafito's "Baked Explorations". I've made it before, and the frosting is… recalcitrant. It's an ermine frosting, but the technique isn't what I'm used to and it takes longer to smooth out than it should. I have ideas for next time, duly noted in the Omnomnomicon.

The vigil is an annual lantern-light walk across the North Bridge with re-enactors, music, poetry, and a recitation of the names of the 122 who died in the battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1776.

IDKHOW at the ‘dise tonight. Great show. Don’t remember the last time I watched from the balcony here, but that's where the kiddo wanted to watch from. I was a strong contender for oldest guy in the room. Sigh. (For the record, I intro'd the kid to the band, not the other way 'round.)

The herring are running, which means that the Osprey are back and hunting at the Wareham herring run. They were mostly fishing away from the accessible part of the river, but a few ventured into camera range, like this bird with its successful catch. #photography #birds #wildlife

Great show by The Wedding Present at the Sinclair, bracketing a run through of all of Seamonsters (marking its 35th anniversary) with old and new tracks and a cover of Pavement's "Box Elder". #concert #photography
