CDC’s deputy director to leave Trump administration after six months - sad but not surprising, as she was well qualified. #vaccinessavelives

Update: he just said that a doctor told him that he had never seen anyone ace a cognitive test. Nonsense! As a geriatrician I administered many cognitive tests and many of my patients got a perfect score. If he has the guts, Dr. Oz should explain to the President how cognitive tests work.

I haven’t been to the other towns that Trump has visited recently, but I have been to Greenville, NC several times in the past year. Greenville seems an odd choice for Trump as it is home to East Carolina Medical Center and University (the major employers in Pitt Co) and he has no health plan.

John Roberts and four other Supreme Court justices have betrayed the U.S. Constitution. The checks are gone. Imbalance prevails. The American experiment in self-governance is imploding in real time.

What got you MAGA is too much TV, too much internet, too much talk-radio, a culture of plenty and a long epidemic of narcissism, and people not voting in midterms and local elections.

I think the two center-right parties "buggering it up" for most Americans is a big part of what got us MAGA.

We are now, without a doubt, the greatest kleptocracy the world has ever known. By virtue of Donald Trump and the Republican Party promising to hate and abuse those people a nation of angry rubes wants to hate and abuse, they have lifted the national wallet and handed it back to the rubes, empty.

Endless corruption.

Watching Jack Smith testify makes me wonder - once Trump is out of office, can he be prosecuted for any of his alleged crimes (e.g., possession of government records, his January 6th involvement)? Any lawyers willing to venture an opinion?

American journalism has reached that point wherein if you cover the White House or opine on national events as a columnist for a major news organization, you must be called "piggy," "sleazebag," or "human scum" by this president. If you are not, you must -- as a gutless and craven cipher -- resign.

Trump is going to do lots of dumb, outrageous things to try to confuse and distract us. Lake America, Trump Strait, the Trump coin...you get the idea. Right now, I'm focused on the two main threats to the elections. Here's a quick update and super simple breakdown.

C.D.C. Director Challenges Pennsylvania’s Report of Two Measles Deaths www.nytimes.com/2026/08/31/h... - despite her having excellent credentials and her testimony at her confirmation hearing, I worried that Dr. Schwartz would be unable to withstand pressure from RFK, Jr. Is this an example?

Teachers shouldn’t have to pay for school supplies

Robert Reich@rbreich.bsky.social

You know something has gone terribly wrong when 94% of teachers have to dip into their own pockets to buy school supplies while the average Wall Street employee got a bonus of $246,900 in 2025. Hello?

Correlation is not causation but RFK, Jr. is not looking too good. (And BTW, if you read the crawler Secretary Bessent isn’t looking too good either.).

Unspeakably disgraceful. Doris Miller was a mess attendant -- the only jobs open to Black sailors -- who won the Navy Cross at Pearl Harbor. With this, and reports USN leaders are considering changing the design of aircraft carriers *because Trump said so* -- the Navy is dishonoring itself.
