Hello new followers. I'm a philosopher of cognitive science working on a book called 'Engines of Hostility'. Recent papers that inform the book are: (1) "Hostile Scaffolding" (Timms & Spurrett) (2) "Fashioning Affordances" (Spurrett & Brancazio) (3) "On Hostile and Oppressive Affective Technology."

If you don’t know anyone living in the occupied territories in Palestine you have no idea how bad things are there. Check points everywhere, roads closed arbitrarily and often, military raids every day, people killed by soldiers, pogroms, the fear whenever you go on the road, a crumbling economy

Gladwell's "analysis" is infuriating because it's why so many people throw up their hands in disgust with statistics & say "you can make numbers say anything." No! There's a way to do this well, and Gladwell just doesn't want to be fucked to do it.

Nihar Shah did a heroic experiment for TMLR: he spent 20-25 hours over two weeks interviewing authors of seemingly low-quality submissions about their own papers. He confirmed what we all suspected: people submitting these papers have *no idea* what is going on in them.

TMLR has faced a deluge of submissions, necessitating stricter desk rejection policies due to limited reviewer capacity Co-EiC Nihar Shah reached out to authors of 10 papers slated for desk reject. Could they answer questions about their *own* submission? medium.com/@TmlrOrg/ask...

RFK Jr is funding a grotesquely unethical study on newborn babies in Guinea-Bissau; ethicists, pediatricians, clinical trial experts, & infectious disease experts are calling this horrific trial The New Tuskegee. It is unethical to withhold a life saving intervention from half of newborns FFS.

Many congratulations to Anne Carson for the well-deserved Nobel Prize! This is also great news for Translation, Classics, Poetry, the breaking of generic and disciplinary boundaries, and the fact that you don't have to fit a pre-existing mould to have a brilliant, successful career.
