Happening today! My friend Kat is doing a 12 hour, yes 12 hour twitch stream doing maths exams to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. Cheer her on! Twitch.tv.katdoesmaths

I can't believe it's been 4 years since I started talking maths on twitch. I'm celebrating with possibly the most challenging streeam I've ever designed - a 12 hour maths exam! Join me on the day as I raise money for the british heart foundation! twitch.tv/katdoesmaths

First game of 40k of the year!band it was killteam... As featured in the 4th edition rulebook from 2004. @dominicwalliman.com fielded a bunch of GSC goons and tried to stop my space marine scouts from planting melta charges on the tower, but couldn't quite get all of them! Delicious retro fun.

There's an argument that no copyright infringement happens if AI trains on people's work, because it's basically what humans do when we're learning to draw, make music, cinematography etc. I used to think this argument logically made sense, but felt something wrong about it in me guts (1/2)

I just figured out what's wrong with it. Automation of learning feels like cheating. If a human gets good at a skill through practice, it takes a lot of time and effort: impressive. If a machine does it, it doesn't feel the time, effort, or dedication: not impressed. (2/2)

So technically I'm not convinced it's a copyright issue, it's an "undermining of humanity" issue which we don't have laws against because it is all so new. Definitely copyright adjacent though, so perhaps we need new regulations specifically for the control and use of data for training. (3/2) oops

Today, the UK government announced a proposal to change copyright law - for the benefit of AI companies - that would cause huge, irreversible harm to creators. More info below, but most importantly here's what you can do (wherever you live): 1. Email your MP. Template letter in 🧵 👇 1/10

I like playing rock music I also like eBay, managed to get this amp and cabs for £187, the guitar was about £3 - I found it on the street, it was broken and I fixed it (new switch and jack also from ebay), oh yeah and £10 for new strings. Pretty good setup for about £200

Okay, I'm just getting up to speed, but am I right in thinking the underlying system for bluesky is kinda like RSS feeds for poscasts/blogs? If so, that's cool! RSS style social media is something I can get behind

It's wild that you are a direct descendant of the first life on Earth around 3.7 billion years ago. Each creature managed to avoid death long enough to make a new one. Often in rather pressing circumstances. Imagine the near misses we all escaped! #existential #science

You are up to date.
