OK we're back baby. I'm not exactly well, but well *enough* to attempt a quiz stream tonight. I'll be joined by some creator friends playing quiz games from games.city... who are offering a donation match up to £2000 during the stream! Tonight, 7:30PM GMT www.twitch.tv/drsimonclark

Don't get me wrong, there have been reasons to be hopeful this month - see the latest IEA report predicting record renewables rollout, or the toppling of coal by renewables as the largest source of electricity. But this has been an extremely bad month and this latest story has really got to me.

But that's not good enough. Despair isn't helpful, and the people trying to obfuscate progress *want* you to give up. The best we can do is take the hits and keep going. Just keep showing up, and do your best.

I mean yes this is funny, but the fact that these unconstitutional stormtroopers are so directionless that they literally stand around waiting for random nonwhite delivery guys to bike past them is just pathetic. No mandate, no mission, no clue. Just racism.

I should say that as methaneSAT has sadly been lost, they've re-recorded the voiceover with a North American voice - which has the upside of not needing to listen to me this time!

Finding the EDL rally in London heartbreaking. 150,000 people - and many more online - who clearly care deeply about their country and want to do what they see as the right thing. Having their illiteracies exploited by shameless grifters promising simple solutions to complex problems. It's tragic

It's the same with climate skeptics. The people posting illiterate comments online are not the people that you should be angry at. The people you should be angry at are those manipulating illiterate people into acting this way, and of course the people paying them to do that.

Getting angry at these people is like getting angry at your Sim. It's not their fault that they have collapsed in a puddle of tears instead of making dinner. You have to look at the factors that led them to do that. And fix them.

For transparency, I should say that this wasn't my first reaction to this rally. My first reaction was one of anger. Especially at comments online like "this is the safest London has been in years" and "the government are lying to you, there's clearly 8x that number there".

But getting angry at these people is not the way that we get out of the political dichotomy the country is falling into. You have to look at the underlying issues and why these people feel this way and why they are choosing to make their feelings known in this manner.

Next gig is on the 29th of November in Bath, Lauridsen's Mid-Winter Songs and Frank Martin's Mass for Double Choir (among other things) - tickets will be available in a few weeks. Sign up to the newsletter to be notified when!

The Department of Energy hired five academics to raise doubts about climate change. 85+ climate experts (organized by @andrewdessler.com) reviewed their report. Our conclusion, detailed in 450 pages of analysis: it is biased, full of errors, and not fit to inform policy making.

Writing this next video has caused legit psychic damage. So far I've had to wade through a lot of Project 2025, historical misinfo from the fossil fuel industry, human trafficking in Thailand, and a lot of AI slop. It's turned into a bit of a monster and I'm not honestly sure when it will be out 😅

Had fun singing evensong in St Mary Redcliffe church in Bristol today, a gorgeous 14th century building. Music by Palestrina and Gibbons* * sadly, a human composer

Hi Canada, (These graphs courtesy of @simonoxfphys.com) 3 of Canada's largest banks are in the top 12. Our banks contribute as much finance to fossil fuels as the entire EU, half as much as America. There are 40 million of us and 450/340 EU/US. This is entirely disproportionate and bad please share.
