We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps: -It’s ‘sleight of hand’ -It’s ‘bated breath’ -It’s ‘lo and behold’ -It's 'buck naked' -It’s ‘brass tacks’ -It’s ‘free rein’ -It’s ‘toe the line'

@scotttobias.bsky.social Halfway through rereading Slough House (the book), I remain impressed by the Slow Horses writers. They’re making adaptation storytelling decisions I’d never think of and making it work. Maybe sacrificing a little Lamb (not a pun) and some other stuff, but it honestly works.

@sepinwall.bsky.social Hooray, it arrived on Tuesday! I am slightly disappointed by whichever excellent person(s) who worked on your book made you put the “by” before your name. You almost had us, Alan! So close! (You told this as a story way back when and it’s still very funny to me.)

@sarahdbunting.bsky.social There is a specific L&O episode that I love and am deeply afraid to submit to the EHG canon lest it not get in. And yet it hits almost every darn trope in the best way. (And also, rewatching it, makes me want to rewatch L&O and get judgmental about spinoffs.)

@scotttobias.bsky.social I have caught up on Slow Horses (and therefore your reviews!), and I honestly think this show is maybe the best adaptation from book to screen I can think of (and I have read all but the most recent book (the show got me into them) and am rereading Joe Country now!).

It cuts things ruthlessly, conflates and adds where it needs to to actually work for on-screen things, and it WORKS. (Also I think that Saskia Reeves as Catherine Standish is such a treasure. Her look up after the corkscrew scene you mentioned was remarkable.)
