The 2026 budget passback plan calls for eliminating NOAA Research, the scientific backbone that keeps weather forecasts, alerts, and warnings accurate and effective. This would have disastrous consequences. Read the AMS statement, in partnership w/ @nwas.org: bit.ly/4cz2RtC

Oh no! Several of the Regional Climate Centers have had their funding lapse through DOC/NOAA. These institutes are critical for connecting weather and climate data and services to local communities across the United States. Spread the word to drive attention and support!

Time in nature can also improve mental health. I find there's nothing better to relieve stress than being outside surrounded by natural flora and fauna 🌳🌻🐦‍⬛🦢🏞🦊 a funny story to tell after (stuck in a bog, fell in a puddle, bellyflop over fence after misjudging a stile) is a bonus #mindfulness

Spending time in nature helps us reconnect with what we’re trying to protect. 🌿 Looking to unplug this weekend? Try: 🌳 A walk in a nearby green space 🌼 Learning to ID local plants 🧹 Joining a clean-up 🪴 Starting a compost pile What’s your go-to eco weekend habit?

This highlights the importance of climate research but also science communication. Translating research into actionable mitigation strategies requires effective communication to non-specialists. Having just contributed to a press release I am reminded just how inaccessible science speak can be

Wow. I knew irrigation impacted ground water and regional weather. I had no idea it could impact deep Earth and surface/mantle processes. This highlights the need for more efficient irrigation practices in the face of increasing food demand #globalchallenge #foodsecurity

Nature Portfolio@natureportfolio.nature.com

The irrigation-induced drying out of the Aral Sea has caused rock deep in the mantle beneath the former lake to uplift and flow like a viscous liquid, at rates of a few millimetres per year, according to a study published in Nature Geoscience. https://go.nature.com/4j5Xchk 🧪 ⚒️

This is very important work. As someone who analyses fluxes as part of my research, I know that the interpretation of results requires an understanding of uncertainties in measurements in order to draw reliable conclusions #science #research #integrity

Understanding flux chamber uncertainty 💡 Flux chambers measure trace gas exchange between soils & the atmosphere. But their analytical limits are often misunderstood, sometimes leading to misreported observations. Our new study and tool can help bsssjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
