I just submitted some letters of recommendation. One place has "how long have you known the applicant" and the response box has no units. . . but will only accept numbers. I've known this applicant 2. . . somethings?

I've updated my (unofficial) ABCT conference feed, but right now it's only the official account's posts. If it's working right, that's because y'all haven't posted about the conference in a week. Maybe post some so I can check it still works? bsky.app/profile/did:...

T-19 days until #ABCT2026! 🦀 Finishing slides, booking flights, already planning your Baltimore food tour? We’d LOVE to hear what you’re presenting this year. Drop your talks and posters below so we can come cheer you on!

I rarely advertise my business. I've been fortunate to receive most of my work through referrals. But I do currently have space for a short-term project! If you need help setting up data collection systems, wrangling a dataset for analysis, or documenting data for sharing, reach out! cghlewis.com

How do folks handle code and data sharing for trainee papers? Linked to the trainee, or PI? I have strong arguments for both approaches in my head, would like to hear any experiences (from either PIs or trainees). 👀

Today I found out that not one, but two of my research related ideas are Good Actually. I thought of one a month ago. The other I thought of about six years ago, and had come to think of as being probably kind of silly (which is what reviewers generally thought about it). Sometimes things work!

This is a system for submitting scientific manuscripts, right? When I type in part of my institution name why are the first possibilities the middle, high, then elementary school, followed by the local Montessori?

I voted today! I had been looking forward to it. There were two partisan tents and tables set up by the polling place to provide voters with information, but the Republican one looked a bit neglected.

Preprint of this paper now available! osf.io/preprints/ps... It may not be the "paper of record" but it's got the supplemental materials bundled in there with the paper, so that's a plus.

New from my lab! So, you've heard that habituation during exposure doesn't predict overall treatment change. Emotional processing theory must be wrong and we need a new theory. But... what if the measurement of habituation was unreliable? Free for 50 days link: authors.elsevier.com/c/1noIo39qZA...

In Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy there's a depressed, querulous android. It's funny as a satire of typically helpful scifi robots. But it also belongs to a ship stolen by an extremely overconfident character, who would have just been completely out of control with an also-confident helper.

I was pretty pleased with this one, but it has the disadvantages of being rather niche and probably only amusing this evening

Does anyone know on RedCap how to set up a "repeating survey" that corresponds to a repeated "data entry form" so that after some time when data is entered the *survey* goes out to an email from the data entry form (but the email changes with each instance)

Hey friends, trying to find a reviewer who could provide a review on an empirical EMA paper focused on emotion regulation. I've had 31 declines so getting a little desperate and feel really bad for the authors. Let me know here or per email (firstnamesecondname@gmail.com)

Can AI feel pain? Reminds me a response to the classic article What is it Like to Be a Bat. Atkins (1993) responded: What is it Like to Be Boring and Myopic. Basically, there's not much room in a bat for it to be like much. AI code has neither the room nor equipment for anything like pain.

The thing that's surprised me most about AI are people's intuitions about what must be true about something that quickly produces words in a plausible order. I suppose it makes sense, in nature we never encounter a word machine without a mind, why would we, they are pretty useless without minds

Request! I am the advisor for a group at VU for women interested in psych. We are hosting a virtual event in October and are looking for speakers who could give a 15-20 minute talk on a panel about the psychology of crime. We are especially interested in work that involves women victims/offenders.

Fun story. As I was a grad student I published a 1st-author paper on co-rumination in J of Adolescence that got discussed in the NYT (side note, the reporter interviewed me but only named my advisor in the story). Our PR office wanted to build on it for more press, so they wrote up a press release…

My current Duolingo lessons have a lot of sentences about meeting the chancellor, which sounds like typical Duo arbitrary sentence learning... But my work actually does have a chancellor and I have actually said some of these things in English 😅

Reposting for the "I'm an academic I mostly only have time for BlueSky on the weekends" folks. It's possible this is my lab's biggest contribution to anxiety treatment research, not even kidding.
