Republican Rep. Andy Harris incorrectly told a reporter they were breaking the law as the reporter and others recorded an exchange with him last night. Harris had just wrapped up a debate with Democratic challenger Dan Schwartz.

It really makes you wonder how many members of Congress actually have a good knowledge of the laws of the US? My guess is that it is way less than 50%. This includes both Republicans and Democrats.

Lieing under oath in session is perjury. Lieing under oath after conspiracy to overthrow the United States constitution, government and people. Is TREASON. STOP LETTING THESE SICK FUCKS WALK AWAY FROM ACCOUNTABILITY. THEY WILL NEVER STOP WILLINGLY! DEMAND JUSTICE EVEN AFTER BLUE TSUNAMI. THANKS

Yeah idk what person assumes they have expected provacy right after a debate. I assume this debate wasnt done in his house lmao

Y’all just know Sen. Schmitt is setting up burner accounts to retweet this and make it viral so he’s no longer the biggest clown in Congress.

I'm looking at his suit and hoping that he used some interesting words when scolding the reporter. There are lots of words I'd like to hear him say, but I think top of the list is sassafras. I hope he said sassafras.

Question 3

Maryland - MD US House 1 - Harris (R) v [Schwartz](votes.decisiondeskhq.com/races/2026-1...) (D) - MD Question 1 - [Collective Bargaining](votes.decisiondeskhq.com/races/2026-1...) - MD Question 3 - [Partisan Gerrymandering](votes.decisiondeskhq.com/races/2026-1...)

I wish your point were correct, but the real reason it’s the first amendment - contrary to popular belief - is that of the original 12 amendments proposed by Congress, the first two failed to win ratification. So the one that was originally designed as “third” by happy accident became the First!

Dear God Andy Harris is the embodiment of "ass hat". With apologies to both an ass and a hat. Individuals who are, through no fault of their own, perhaps associated with him in my post. Total ass hat.

Backed into a corner then incorrectly interprets a Maryland state law to escape public scrutiny and a press gaggle. I thought only women got emotional? (Sarcasm) He is lucky he escaped the Maryland gerrymandering to get rid of him this year.

He has not escaped yet. Question 3 seeks to empower Dems to remove him from his seat.

This is the same guy who threw a tantrum because of the criticism and pushback on his dumb takes he THINKS goes against the 1st amendment. He can claim a title or position all he wants; it doesn't mean that title makes him smart.

I saw a different video of this idiot today in which he claimed that people laughing at him for blaming democrats and environmental policies for diesel prices was a violation of his first amendment rights. He’s very dumb and a giant baby.

He claimed that they weren’t letting him finish what he was saying, which is not true and also not a violation of the first anyway. He was embarrassed and instead of recognizing how absurd his statement was, he made himself look even dumber.

I can't decide if he just used... ▪️DARVO, ▪️blame shifting ▪️deflection, or ▪️gaslighting ...on a whole group of reporters and constituents so he didn't have to answer questions in order to avoid accountability. No matter the tactic he employed, they're all tactics employed by abusive people.

Republican representatives are so abusive with all their tactics in interactions with the public and press, that it now has me convinced that GOP supporters are not only trauma bonded (think Patty Hearst) with their GOP leaders but that GOP families must have this dynamic replicated in many homes.

Normally I’d say yes, but it’s an R+8 district, so in this environment it’s a possible but long shot flip. It is gerrymandered to be the only Republican district and we’re probably going to gerrymander it blue for 2028.

Thank you. Hope springs eternal, I suppose. Good luck with it (here in Tennessee, we routinely elect morons. Our next senator, who will be appointed by our current senator who is leading in polls to be our next governor, is likely going to be the former professional wrestler known as "Kane.")

Christians who know their Scriptures will see that in John 3: 20, 21, Jesus says that people who are doing evil will stay in the darkness, but those who do good come out into the light, so people can see what they are doing in the sight of God. I'd like to see GOP Christians catch on.

This is also the same asshole that said COVID wasn't that bad but showed up at clinics to give COVID shots. Also the same asshole that had to kiss Biden's ass to get more VISA workers to pick crab meat cause "white people" were too good to do a low paying job like that.

Dude, we've been trying to get rid of him for years, but let's face it, while Maryland may have been a weird 'border state' during the Civil War, the Eastern Shore of it is still far more Southern than Northern—for all the good and bad that entails.

Yeah, I was just thinking that, plus notice how this GOP Rep is just copying Trump by picking out and going off on a female journalist. She did a good job fighting back, but it’s depressing that not that many male voices could be heard supporting her.

This is literally him. But by comparison at least Stallone's character in this movie was trying to embody law. Because it was a thing that he believed in more than anything else. It was basically his religion. Harris on the other hand, thinks his word is the law because he's a wealthy white guy.

And you can tell if there weren't a crowd of people around him. Especially those basically kind of cornering him into the interview. Then he would've likely tried to take a swing at her. Like you can actually see him turning red w/ frustration. And directing his ire at her more than anyone else

Should we explain his inability to react well to tough questions or scrutiny to the fact that most of Andy's contacts over the past 30 years were mildly sedated and on their backs, feet in the stirrups during labor or napping between contractions? Being an obstetric anesthesiologist is fun.

When you remember that the KKK held meetings in what is now his district... (Had to word that carefully. He was elected AFTER that)

So, Andy is a fucking MORON who doesn't understand how the LAW actually works. Incompetent, and he just PROVED IT! Idiots like that have no business running ANYTHING. The need to be subordinated under someone with a brain, before they do more damage.

And pass Question 3.

I've had some time now, and I have some thoughts. 1 : He's wrong. 2 : Good for her for standing up for herself. My understanding is that she's a UMD student; good job, keep it up. 3 : Why did this even happen? The whole purpose of a reporter gaggle is to amplify your dipshit talking points.

This is one of those times when I feel like I should have a job as a republican campaign manager. All those things you feel like doing? Don't do any of them. All those words in your head you want to say? Don't say them. Just sit there and look pretty, you fucking moron.

So I looked him up. I didn't want to assume he was just a rich fuck who's never been challenged in his entire life. Turns out, he actually isn't. He was a naval anesthesiologist. He sucks this hard without even having the excuse of being a rich douche.

This clown is the Chair of the hard right, extremist House Freedom Caucus. Chip Roy (Texas) was a member and even he got kicked out by voters. Harris was supportive of the J6 Insurrectionists and continues to be a stain in Maryland politics.

I live far from there, but following US politics a bit, it's a name you encounter quite a lot in a context of extremist initiatives, but stays mostly under the radar one way or another.

I heard about him last night when I saw a video of him at a town hall accusing his constituents of violating his first amendment rights for laughing at him after he blamed inflation on the Democrats, so this tracks pretty hard.

Are you a yes on Question 3?

International too! Chiming in from western Canada as someone who also had never heard of him till yesterday, and now he just keeps popping up on my feed for being a whiny loser. (I live in Alberta, so usually WE'RE the ones making international news for being an embarrassment.)

He ran on an anti healthcare platform in 2010, then as soon as he got to DC, complained he wasn’t getting his special congressional health insurance fast enough

actually no we didn't we are gerrymandered learn to learn a bit about peoples circumstances I live in the princess anne area and the people here hate him the problem is a lot of people know he wins everytime and are depressed people just love to judge don't they? if this world had more love

Kudos to that reporter for not letting up. We need more fearless reporting on people who govern. Make them all answer to their bosses, the citizens. #VoteEarly

like I said we are gerrymandered district 1 has a lot of towns its the entire eastern shore I live here theres a lot of consiutents they have to win over to win the district many people where I live want him gone I voted against him the people here are good kind people andy harris is the only

He has. He campaigned against welfare handouts. Guess what he complained about day 1 in office? Thats right, his tax payer funded benefits not being immediately available to him. He’s an M.D. and against masking during covid. He’s a Catholic and in favor of putting immigrants in squalid camps

Them and everyone who lives in DC. Showboating prick that he is he loves oppressing DC residents.

Not just in MD- but years of lobbying and right wing propaganda have convinced the agriculture/aquaculture industries that democrats are bad for business. Now it seems they be finally creeping what they actually sown.

They fail to see those policies are designed to pro long their industries by protecting the environment and species they source - through clean air and water, sustainability for water, managing climate change, alternatives to fossil fuels, etc.

During planting and harvest season those farms and business rely on migrant labor. The same laborers they voted for ICE to violently deport. They see democratic policies, mainly environmental protections, as anti their business and their only recourse is R.

The answer is yes. History shows MD was a southern state. MD-1 is very much a contemporary southern state, heavily reliant on agriculture, specifically corn, soybeans, watermelons, and poultry, as well as seafood. All industries that associate with republicans, ie Midwest and southeast.

He's like the dunning kruger poster boy or something . . . Stupid, arrogant, deceitful and very sure of his erroneous "facts". (I think he knows, but he's convinced that his MAGAt base is stupider and will believe his bullshit).

Rep. Andy Harris is picking up from the Trump M.O. of insulting the reporter, misquoting the law, and blaming anyone he can for his missteps and lies. Even the most uneducated layman knows "there is no expectation of privacy when youre in public". Too stupid to serve. Make him a loser.

What's the current polling look like in this race? I was hunting for it earlier, but all I could find was something from late July, that had Harris ahead by double digits? Insane that someone like this could get another term.

Seems like the entire GOP is pulling back the curtain and revealing a total disregard for the Constitution. These whiny bitches spent decades calling themselves the party of the rule of law and of the Constitution. They don’t believe in either.

He is my rep 🤮 He is absolutely a slimeball. He lies and is a little whiny lying “poor me” -er, kind of like someone else we know.

The same guy who thinks the 1st Amendment means his constituents can't disagree with him at a town hall meeting. 🤦 Basically, he seems to think only he has rights, & he gets to dictate what everyone else can do on an individual basis. Typical Republican.

He is a conservative. He has to lie. He is compelled to lie. He MUST lie. All conservatives lie, even about things which don't matter.

Andy Harris fun fact: his father was a dentist in Hungary who joined the local ss and tried to barge into Budapest hospitals in Nazi garb to seize Jewish patients. He failed, was convicted of war crimes & did ~ 3 years. His kid lies that he was an anti communist resister.

Oh my goodness - the rabbit hole to fall down tonight...https://newrepublic.com/article/168327/andy-harris-maryland-congressman-viktor-orban-fanboy

Thank you Harris for the reminder that legislators do not know the law. MD-01, vote him out. Maryland as a whole, facilitate his removal with Question 3.

All-party consent to recording does not apply in public spaces, where there is no reasonable expectation of privacy. Andy Harris is trying and failing to emulate his daddy, Trump. But he has no charisma and does not come off ats threatening when he harasses women, so no dice.

recordinglaw.comMaryland Recording Laws (2026): All-Party Consent RulesMaryland is an all-party consent state. Recording without every participant's consent is a felony under Md. Cts. & Jud. Proc. § 10-402: up to 5 years, $10,000 fine.

If you are in Maryland you have the opportunity to permit Maryland Democrats to remove Harris from his seat. Question 3.

Is that really a public space? The exceptions seem narrow in MD. A sidewalk is a public space. I can't tell from that recording if they are in a public building If it's a private building, even if its open to the public for the event, that's likely not a public space for the purposes of recording

Perhaps not in some reasoning, but it's not Harris's private event. The owners of the building or their team could ask someone to leave or not record, (even this could spark a lawsuit), but he can't. He's a participant in a public forum. He has no reasonable expectation of privacy.

I'd expect for a debate where you'd obviously be recording they might have a policy or disclaimer that by attending you consent as an admission condition. If the building is publicly owned, you'd be exempt from the all party consent law but if the building is private you'd need all party consent.

He's the incumbent due to 'safe districts.' (Draw districts as close as possible to squares and rectangles, not gerrymanders, and we'd get rid of 'safe districts.'

He doesn't know when to shut up "It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt"

R+8 isn’t that safe these days. As Washingtontonians retire to the Eastern Shire and Lower Delaware, the voting patterns will change.
